They have Brown Rice! I quit eating chinese food a while back (aside from a healthy chinese food place in Tucson) because i couldnt find a nearby place that has brown rice, but now that i know they have it ill be back! Now if only they had more vegeatarian options (fried yams) i would visit alot more often! 🙂
Excellent Eastcoast Style Chinese…. Oh how I wish there was a China Chef in my home area of Spokane. There isn’t. This is exactly like the Chinese I grew up with outside of NYC. Yeah, they’re take out only, and some of their fried items are FSA, but that is no matter on how satisfied I was with flavors and composition of their wok-made entres. Excellent value for the quality of product. A nostalgic culinary trip for me, and I’m tempted to order again before vacation is over…
Fair to Good Chinese Food. I’ve eaten here several times in the past and found the food to be nothing outstanding. I’ve had both good and not so good.The location, as mapped is a bit deceiving as the restaurant actually faces Gantzle, not Combs. It sits beside Edible Arrangements.This restaurant does a LOT of takeout, but has 5 or 6 tables for dining in. I worked late the other day and decided to stop in and pick up some take out. It was not too busy (about 6:00 – 6:30ish on a weeknight). I chose the Happy Family and a large Hot and Sour Soup. I must admit, the soup is very good and has been every time I have ordered it. I was absolutely disappointed with the Happy Family. It was very bland tasting. The shrimp tasted like they had been soaking in sanitizer. There was a medicinal/bleachy kind of taste to them. On Friday, I decided to stop again and try something else. When I arrived, 6:00 – 6:30ish again, it was extremely busy. The cashier was on the phone taking orders, the second phone would ring, and she’d put them (2nd phone) on hold, finish taking the order, then pick up the second phone. Meanwhile, the first phone would ring, she’d put them on hold (1st phone) finish taking the order then pick up the 1st phone, etc… on and on… Ignoring the customer standing in front of her… ME.Finally a break! I was ready to order. But… instead, she stepped aside and asked if anyone was here for pick up? I then had to wait for her to cash out two people before my order was taken… I almost walked out then…and would have if there’d been another delay.Instead, I patiently waited and finally placed my order. After she took my order, she notified me there would be a 20 – 25 minute wait. I guess she could see I was a little miffed from having to wait so long just to place my order, because she went on to say that they were always busy on the weekend nights and that I should take a menu and call ahead for take out.This time I got the Beef with Vegetables combo (with Fried Rice and an Egg Roll) and a large Hot and Sour Soup. Again the soup was delicious. The Beef with Vegetables was perfect! Not bland at all. The egg roll, wasn’t very good though. The wrapper was thick and tough, and the egg roll wasn’t very large at all. I’ll probably continue to eat here all along as it is conveniently located on one of the routes home.
