You Could Definitely Do Worse in Scottsdale. I know Arriba’s is nowhere near the best Mexican restaurant in a town that has Frank and Lupe’s, but can you honestly say that it’s worse than Ajo Al’s, Miguel’s, or Los Olivos? If choosing between the last three I mentioned and Arriba’s, Arriba’s is the hands-down winner for best food. It’s on par with Macayo’s, but there are better places in town. Personally, I can see how some people might not like Arriba’s. Their specialty is more New Mexican than Mexican, and a lot of what Arriba’s makes is extremely spicy. To give you an idea, I always order the White Sands Chimichanga, which has a one-chile rating (spicy, but not anywhere near as spicy as Arriba’s can serve). It’s pretty spicy, which I happen to like. I strayed once and tried the three-chile rated Stuffed Hatch Chile. You know those cartoon images of Daffy Duck when he has smoke coming out of his ears and he’s frantically looking for water because of the burning in his mouth? That’s what a three-chile rating means at Arriba’s. So if spicy food isn’t your thing, I probably wouldn’t recommend this place. If it is, and you’re looking for someplace cheap that makes good margaritas, you could do worse. Also, this is the only place I’ve been to in town that serves bean dip along with chips and salsa. The bean dip is amazing, and the salsa can hold its own.

No, no, no! Well below average food, mediocre service. Good thing they make strong Margaritas…

Terrible Mexican Food. Had dinner at Arriba last night and our first complaint was the with the menu…it was unreadable in the low lighting…black background with dark lettering does not work. Either that or give the customer a flashlight. Our food was equally disappointing. I’ve had Chimis at some very good Mexican restaurants…Fajerdo’s in Glendale and El Bravo in Phoenix, but the Arriba version was ineatable…the chicken filling was all ground up and mushy, the flour tortilla was soft and thick (I asked them not to put the sauce on the chimi but serve it with guacamole and sour cream as they do in other restaurant and now I know why the smother it with a sauce) you won’t discover how really bad the chimi is. My husband’s chili relleno was equally as bad…the only thing good were the chips and salsa. A terrible experience and way overpriced for the quality of good. Any of you Mexican food lovers…try a good place…El Bravo or Fajerdos…both excel in green corn tamales, rellanos, chimis, tacos…even their beans and rice is better. Now…why can’t people on the west side of town find a decent Mexican food restaurant. We’ve tried most of them and they are all mediocre.

Service was good but the food tasted mass produced and very little spicy flavor. On a hot summer day 107+ nothing better than a cold glass of ice tea. This ice tea was horrible tasted like a dirty pot of dish water asked for fresh glass yet still tasted bad. Leaving arriba a little full and dehydrated from major lack of fluids to go with a less than tasty spice
