Awesome place! Best crab cakes, oysters, steamed shrimp ever!
Really enjoyed except for one thing…. We visited Ernie’s because it is known for having Maryland seafood, and my boyfriend loves seafood.. Ernie’s has been in Scottsdale for 35 years and I have noticed it many times but we never had visited. We went during the middle of the day and the outside bar was full but this was ok because it was an off time and we were lucky to have the son of the owner wait on us. He was a very friendly guy and really helped us decide what to order and chatted about the history of the restaurant. So, the service was good.We started with soup. I got the clam chowder and my guy got the Maryland crab soup. The first was creamy and so so good. The second was a tomato based healthier soup Next were the Maryland crabcakes which were really amazing . Huge chunks of blue crab held together with a minimum amount of breadcrumbs and mayonnaise and broiled. You can have these deep fried (probably tastier) or broiled (healthier and still yummy). These were some of the best crab cakes I have had because of the amount and type of crab in each cake. The cakes were served with boiled shrimp Maryland style (topped with boiled onions) and came with cocktail sauce and tartar sauce on the side. Basic but perfectly prepared. We also received a huge basket of french fries. Nothing special, but not greasy, perfectly fried fries! The menu has an assortment of sandwiches, fried seafood baskets and salads. I was surprised to see Wallye Pike on the menu. This is a fish that is very popular in Minnesota and the owners son told us it was very popular. We really enjoyed the food and have nothing negative to say about it. We might even become regulars if it wasn’t for one thing….That criticism is that the smoke from the outside bar does come into the restaurant. It looks like they have really tried to avoid this by physically separating the outside bar from the restaurant but the smoke still travels. The outside bar was very crowded on the day we are there. This may not bother many people. But if you are someone who is sensitive to smoke or hates smoke, this could bother you. It affected us enough, that we will probably not go back.
