About as Hawaiian as my Aunt Gertrude. Let’s face it, this is a semi-fast food chain restaurant. I wasn’t expecting whole roasted pigs with taro chips or exotic grilled fish glazed with pineapple and rum, but still found myself very disappointed with the limited menu.Your choices are chicken (breaded or grilled) pork or shrimp and a variety of self-serve sauces like a sweet Teriyaki, curry and something called Katsu (presumably meant to accompany the breaded chicken of the same name). Combos come with a side of steamed rice, wilted cabbage and the blandest macaroni salad known to man.Basically, it is to Hawaiian cuisine what Panda Express is to Chinese. Inexpensive, easily accessible, catering to the non-adventurous palate and great if you don’t actually like or expect Hawaiian food.
