Great Sushi!!!. I love sushi. I mean, I LOVE sushi. So when I say this is the best sushi I’ve had in a long time, those words carry some significant weight. The atmosphere was amazing, the service was impeccable, and the food was marvelous. If you’re hankering for some sushi in the Sierra Vista area, or even just driving through, i HIGHLY recommend you try Tanuki out. You will NOT regret it.
Try it!. Tanuki is one our top ten favorite Japanese restaurants anywhere (not just in AZ). It doesnt have as big menu as what you might find elsewhere. But the owner focuses upon high quality and the cuts of fish she serves are far better than average. In fact, its point of pride with her to serve high quality for a reasonable price. We always order the dynamite (broiled scallop with mayo), chopped scallop nigiri, and the spicy tuna. Our kids enjoy the California rolls (they have two) and unagi (eel; we eat a lot of sushi). She also keeps a good selection of Japanese beer and sake on hand (quality, not quantity). Its not a big place and can be crowded, at times. However, the staff is friendly and its cozy. If youre not sure what to order, then just ask for help (at the sushi bar or from a server). They know what theyre talking about. This is a great place and we love it.
I LOVE this place! I like the environment there. Everything is quiet and cozy. The food there is fresh and tastes great. I prefer this place over Hana Tokyo because of the staff, the prices, and the portions. The miso soup here is way better too.
Best Sushi in town. When other reviewers say that this is the best food/sushi in town they are not doing this place justice considering the rot gut swill that passes for food in this small minded Podunk town. Tanuki is a fantastic restaurant that would rival the Japanese restaurants in any cosmopolitan and cultured area up and down either coast. The food is fantastic and the service is phenomenal.

Best Japanese Restaurant I’ve been to in the US.. I was stationed in Japan for years in the military. So I know good Japanese food. Tanuki has the best service I have seen throughout the US, they great every customer that walks in the door with a smile in the traditional Japanese way, the restaurant is always very clean, and the food is always very fresh. Tanuki restaurant really caters to their customers and they offer dine-in and take-out services. The fact that Tanuki is actually run by Japanese people and has Japanese Sushi Chefs is proof of the foods authenticity and quality. All of the staff at Tanuki are very friendly and humble.I highly recommend Tanuki to anyone that wants to experience high quality Japanese food with out paying outrageously high prices.
A little bit of Japan. Been coming to Tanuki for years. I’ve been stationed multiple places, eaten sushi In Tucson (sachiko, sushi ten, sushi cho, sushi garden, takamatsu, etc.) and still have yet to find a place where the sushi is authentically made by Japanese sushi chefs. I don’t claim to be a sushi expert, but my palate knows when the fish is fresh and made with care. The owner works hard in ensuring her customers leave with a full, satisfied tummy. Try the super kamikaze!
