We have had steak here twice and really enjoyed it. Monday we decided to eat here and after looking at the menu, ordered the grilled shrimp just to do something different. Now the steaks are fantastic so we were not too sure…However, the shrimp was great. As always the hostess and our waitress were very sweet, so attentive and it was an excellent meal. The atmosphere is very casual. We always ask to be seated in the back dining room because it’s away from the bar and excited sports fan. (Not that we don’t get excited about certain sports too but we do like to dine in relative peace ;D) We both like this Doe’s much better than the one in Fayetteville. The girls waiting on you are always cheerful, ever attentive and the food is consistently good.
The porterhouse was incredible, the fries were excellent and the bread was out of this world. It was so superb it outweighs the soggy salad.
There are so many things wrong with Doe’s, I am having difficulty finding any positives …1) The salad was soggy2) The tamales were bland and overpriced ($10 for 6), the chili boring3) You cannot order a steak under 1 1/2 to 2 pounds for one person unless you want to pay $33 for an 8 ounce filet mignon. I went without a steak because I could not eat 24 ounces of meat and refuse to pay $66 a pound for a steak. The smallest steak porterhouse, sirloin, or t-bone you can get is 1 1/2 to 2 pounds and they refuse to sell anything smaller. How many people can eat 24-32 ounces of meat in one sitting?4) The gumbo was disgusting. Tomatoes, okra, and hot dogs instead of andouille sausage … barf!5) $7 for a 14 ounce beer, $8 for a well drink … in Arkansas … really?6) The menu is extremely limited. They have steak, shrimp, tamales, something they call gumbo and corn and crab bisque (which they are always out of apparently) … that’s it!On the positive side, I tried some of the French fries and they were hot and decent. Our server was also friendly and efficient. Otherwise, I saw few redeeming qualities in this roadside dive in Walmart’s hometown.CombatCritic Gives Doe’s Eating Place 2 Bombs Out Of 10 … More Bombs Are Better! combatcritic.com
Love Doe’s Good Eats. Terrific steaks, fries and Delta style tamales can be found here. My wife and I love the place and have always gotten great food and attentive service. I have to say that the whiners who post complaints on here about the decor would be appalled at the original Doe’s in Greenville, Mississippi in the old house!
Glad I Tried It. I ate at Doe’s in Hot Springs as a teenager but this was my first visit to the Bentonville location. It was a special date night, because I am by no means a rich gal. I suggested Herman’s, which I love, but my husband wanted to try this place. It IS expensive…but we spent only $130 with tip included….this surprised me, because I wasn’t really trying to keep the cost down. We each had crab bisque and we split a two pound porterhouse. I had potatoes, he had fries and an extra side of greens. I had a beer and a glass of wine. Bisque was delicious…a bit on the spicy side, but not too much. The salad was average….kind of like a Venesian Inn salad but without the bite. I missed the bite. French fries were both cold and burned….if you tried to move one they all moved…kind of like my hair when I got my first perm and didn’t understand mousse. The potatoes were okay, greens good, drops biscuits AMAZING. The steak? Eh. The filet was amazing. I stole that portion for myself. My husband’s portion was decent, but gristly and less worth the money. If we return, we will both opt for a filet and I will hope for decent fries. OH! Service was excellent.
Best tamales around!
Way overpriced for less than average steak. Tamales are great. Steak was a huge disappointment.
