I love Fred’s Hickory Inn. It’s part of growing up in Northwest Arkansas. From the moment you are greeted by the guy holding open the front door until you leave, the waitstaff goes out of their way to make you feel special and wanted. I love their food. The barbecue is great, the sides really good and even the chocolate pecan pie is pretty good. But…what I’m writing about today is actually the new Sunday brunch. Okay so time to get real and put aside childhood nostalgia. I still appreciate the waitstaff and being made to feel like a special princess, however, I must be honest: The Creme Brulee French Toast and the Smokehouse Scrambler were just okay. Not over the top, I want to go back, great food which I truly expected. The atmosphere was the same, the waitstaff still amazing, but unless the food is stepped up a bit I’m not so sure it’s worth the price. However, I will give it a second go and let you know.I would like to add that dinner at Fred’s is really great for families, a business dinner, get together with old friends etc. It is NOT a romantic place as I have heard some say. It’s a very very loud, but family friendly, NICE dining.

I will update this review in more detail as time allows, but I wanted to get it on the books ASAP.Great place, very good food, excellent service and fair prices. They accommodated our 20-person group without a flinch, just like we were a party of 4 dropping in for dinner. The drinks and food came post haste and with not just a smile, but a story or two and some good humored jabs from our server.Excellent barbecue, they also have steaks, seafood, and pasta dishes, although their Bolognese sauce on the side of spaghetti I had was the primary reason for the one-star downgrade. On night two I had the lasagna which was pretty good, not quite like my mom, grandma, mother-in-law, and Zia Gina make, but not bad.Prices range from $14-$35+ for dinner entrees, including soup or salad and a side or two, very fair for food and service of this caliber.CombatCritic Gives Fred’s Hickory Inn A Very Respectable 8 Bombs Out Of 10 And A Thumbs-Up … More Bombs Are Better … See You In The Fall Y’All! combatcritic.com

Wife and I were there recently with two other couples. The service was helpful and friendly. Atmosphere was good but loud I couldn’t hear my friends at our table for all the sounds from other tables, I suppose everyone was enjoying themselves after a few glasses of wine, ( stopped drinking 20 years ago ).I had sirloin steak and it arrived lukewarm and could not finish as it was very cold half way through dinner. After we left I found out everyone else at our table enjoined a cold steak as well. All but one she had cold chicken. Restaurant was cold as well. All was good except for the food and noise.

Poor service. Room temp chilling to the bone. Waited 2 hours when we were seated with reservations. Embarrassed to take my Wife and Mother-in-Law here on Easter Sunday. I have walked out on only a few things…the movie Pulp Fiction, an I-30 rest stop, and Fred’s Hickory Inn. Should have gone to Copeland’s or Longhorn Steakhouse.

Reportedly Sam Walton’s favorite restaurant, this is rumored to be the place where Bill Clinton revealed to his friends that he was going to run for the presidency. The smoked sirloin is the famed dish here, but you must save room for the epic, heart-stopping Mississippi mud pie. tiedyetravels.com

Disappointing. Stomach ache enducing. Should have checked reviews before going. The lasagna was bad, dry, and left a weird taste in my mouth. Their house wine – black box Pinot was the worst I’ve tasted to date. Really? Choose a better wine as your house variety Fred’s. The Fred’s sampler, with ribs, brisket, pork, and sausage was also dry and disappointing. I was hoping for much more from this established restaurant. Will not go back.
