If you love BBQ you have to try a place that claims championship Q and lines their walls with trophies. Unfortunately most I’ve tried that have the accolades and or Food Network appearances fall short, not all so you gotta try. Whole Hog joins the list of disappointments. To be fair if there were no trophies and no claims I’d be fine calling it decent chain Q but if you make the claims, bring it or go home. The ribs. You don’t do this in competition so why serve incorrectly smoked wet ribs? Even more egregious, thin sliced beef that I won’t call brisket, but like a previous review, more like roast beef. Bark, smoke rings or a good dry-rub not found. The beans were atrocious but the cheese corn was good. On the good side the service at the counter was great. The option of 6 sauces was cool thou reminiscent of Famous Dave’s. (Number 3 was seriously good) Nice large space thou empty when I entered. Most of the trophies were for pork shoulder and other cuts not served at the restaurant, that’s understandable, competition doesn’t translate to daily food service often. However when you can’t smell smoke till you near the counter I worry. The fact my hands didn’t smell like smoke after just one washing, telling.

This place has the juiciest BBQ chicken & pork but the beef reminded us of Arby’s. Ugh!! The sides were not to our liking. Would have rather had baked potatoes or home fries(pan fried) regular mac & cheese or fried orca . Too much sugar in the Cole slaw , prefer mayo( Helman’s) & a little vinegar. Meat was great!!
