Good and Bad. The BBQ and the sauce is very tasty (best sauce in town in my opinion), great chicken, very good brisket, and the ribs are larger than you get at most places. But they are almost always too chewy to enjoy with pieces that are literally inedible at times. The sides are the other issue. Both the pasta salad and mac and cheese are almost always served bone dry. I’m not sure if the sauces are settling to the bottom of whatever container they are served from and not being reached or if they are just made this way, but what you end up with tastes mostly like plain pasta… not good. The baked beans taste like beans dumped in sauce! BBQ sauce that is (and plenty of it , for once) and while I love, love, LOVE the BBQ sauce here, I don’t want to eat it as a side and would rather the baked beans actually tasted like baked beans. Also, while the broccoli is cooked on-site, the green beans taste like they came straight out of a can.
Honestly i was surprised to see there was a handful of bad reviews. I wouldnt go as far as to say this has the hands down best slow cooked meats ever, but this is where i always go and enjoy getting bbq the most here in northwest arkansas. I adore the fact that i can get a giant pulled pork sandwich, with sides like mac n cheese and fried okra, split an appetizer with a friend, and get a beer for $12. I feel like penguin eds is a staple in fayetteville, and i love it. Always recommend for bbq.
I called in an order to go. When I got there I had to actually beg for extra BBQ sauce. When I got back to work there wasn’t plastic ware, the brisket was not just cold it was chilled as if it was never warm, and then it was tough as leather. I don’t know where they get such a rating.
Best BBQ in town, period. Love the atmosphere and the old phone ordering. Staff have always been super friendly. They also have the best hot-links in NWA.
This is the best penguin Ed’s in town, in my opinion. The BBQ is great, they could use more side options. Didn’t Kiel the green beans. But overall, an ok BBQ experience. oldworldnew.us
Love the food and atmosphere went here when I was at U of A . They have kept good food and service. Love the red phones to call in your food. Not a high brow place. Brings you back to the old style collage hang out food place. Sliced pork is very good. Chopped beef is the best on menu. Bologna would be better not shaved.
Average. The pulled pork I had was okay, but there are better places in town. The ordering process is a little strange because you call in your order from your table. The Mac and cheese was pretty good, but the sides are pretty small.
