This place is known for its home cooking. My wife and I ate there recently. She had chicken and dumplings. They were horrible. Canned chicken, canned broth instead of stock and the dumplings were mush. Worst I’ve ever tasted.
Calico County is a tradition in Fort Smith, the food was always great and the service was wonderful. Because it has been in town so long the restaurant gets away with a huge slip in service and quality that most of their customers just let slide or refuse to see.For the most part the food is still great, not as consistent as it once was but OK. The real problem here is the service and management. Now understand I eat here all the time and have for over 20 years. Some of the servers do not pay attention to details, having to ask for silverware, drink refills or items left off of an order is becoming very common. Management does not come around to the table to check on your meal and experience as much and as consistent as they use to do and like other restaurants in town will do. If you do have an issue it is hit and miss if anything will be done about it, they do not like to think much is their fault and they do not offer to compensate often for poor service or even if a dangerous food issue occurs.( I have experienced this 3 times since the reopening) The check out can be cold and roboticNow you can go there and get great food and great service but if you go more than once or twice you will experience these issues.
Friendly service, decently prepared food. I’ve not had breakfast here; I understand that it is awesome. I’m not giving an up or down vote. It’s really not my cup of tea, but I can objectively step back and imagine that people who like southern-style, country cooking would like it. I tried the much-touted onion rings and was not impressed – maybe it was an off day.I won’t go back, but that’s just my personal preference. If you like country-cooking (think Cracker Barrell), you’ll probably dig this place.
Excellent food and service. We were visiting Ft. Smith and this place was recommended by locals. They start out each meal with complimentary hot homemade cinnamon rolls. Plus , their dinner rolls are awesome. All homemade at the restaurant. The ham steak I ordered with breakfast three days in a row was thick cut, grilled and had great flavors. We ate there only 1 night and wish we could have gone there more. Try fhe made from scratch Mac and cheese, turnip greens and yep, the cole slaw. If I ever come back to Ft. Smith ( a neat little town) I am rushing back to Calico County. Shout out to Greg. Great service !
Good country breakfast. Biscuits like grandma used to make! Breakfast Sunday morning: eggs, bacon, blueberry pancakes…all delicious. Breakfast Monday morning: omelet, biscuit, spicy potatoes. If you’re looking for an old-fashioned country breakfast, this is it.
Great home cooking every time you go! Love the cinnamon rolls! So good!
Ate here for breakfast absolutely amazing! Would suggest to anyone looking for a good hearty breakfast!
