Great soup and dumplings. On my second visit to Taipei I decided to make a meal off a big bowl of Hot & Sour soup and a plate of steamed dumplings. The soup is simple and basic with just the right combination of hot and sour spice and really nice undercurrent of sesame oil. It’s very good. The steamed dumplings were equally delicious–tightly formed with shrimp and pork and a good dipping sauce. This place is hitting all the marks in my book!13 Jun, 2012Very nice!. I stopped in for lunch and found this to be a very nice, very clean, modern Chinese restaurant. I tried the Taipei Lo Mein, which has chicken, shrimp, pork and beef with the thin noodles and crunch strips of carrot and cabbage. Now most places where I’ve had this dish serve it with a little of the broth from the cooking process, which enhances the flavor of the dish; here at Taipei they don’t add any broth, but it’s still very flavorful. I added just a dash of soy sauce and it was excellent. The service was very good too. I would definitely go back.
Best Lunch Plate. There are many great Chinese places have eaten across the globe, but there is one place I have known the owners family for many years that can compete with the best of them. That place is Taipei. It is where you will find one of the best plate lunches anywhere. This is a small place – and if you dont come in a bit before the lunch crowd – expect there to be a wait – because it always is crowded at lunch. The hard part once you have a seat is picking which item you want – because all are good. They do serve some of the best spring rolls – not too oily, crunchy and perfect tecture. Their version of lemon chicken remains one of my favoites as does their kungpao chicken and the spicy pepers they have in it. But the great secret is going to the back page and the Vietnamese food. Here you will find one of the best bun bo chau (grilled beeff over noodles) around. This is one of those items that you will find yourself stopping in again and again for.
