Best Steak In 10 Years!!!. Having been born in Texas, raised in Colorado (and raising our own cattle!) I always felt the need for great steak! When I moved to California, then MO ten years ago, I never could find a REALLY great steak. You know the kind, it almost cuts with a butterknife, thick, perfectly marinated and seasoned. I always have to ask for A-1 sauce (I know, I know, you can put this stuff on the sole of a shoe and call it good) but after one bite, I told our server Pam (what a sweetie) that A-1 would RUIN this wonderful steak! It was so good that the parts I cut off that I usually don’t eat, I ate this day just to get another taste of the flavor. It was so good, I actually savored each bite, cutting it into the smallest pieces possible to make this meal last…I will be BACK!!!!!!! 5 STARS!!!
MIXED RESULTS FOR PARTY OF FOUR. While not an upscale steak joint, Colton’s usually delivers solid fare, but our party of four had mixed results. Brian had the pork chops, two large and tasty chops cooked just right, so he said. The other three had steaks, a ribeye and two fillets mignon. Each was ordered medium rare. Mine was over-cooked and dry for over half of it—the rest barely pink. My wife’s was on the rare side of medium rare—deep red, almost purple, but she can eat steaks mooing, so she was quite pleased. My friend’s ribeye was, so he said, just okay. The Colton yeast rolls remain at or near the top of breads from any restaurant: very yeasty, slightly sweet, and tantalizingly delicious with butter (or honey added). The biggest disappointment was the steak seasoning or, rather, the lack of it. NO seasoning that I could taste and very little salt—I salted my fillet three times to make it more palatable. In short, not a lot to commend a return visit anytime soon.
Excellent food…excellent service. Staff is always friendly and recognizes us when we come in.
Cheap. The food is cheap, but you get what you pay for. I think the peanut shells all over the floor that I slipped on did me in….
The old standby.. Colton’s is one of the places that you always go when you’re tired of everything else. Steak: okay. Go for the larger cuts if you can afford it, smaller cuts have a tendency to be dry. Chicken: eh. Sometimes overcooked and dry. Ribs: think roadhouse, not smokehouse. Dry rubbed. Sometimes a little on the greasy side, but – they’re ribs.Price-to-portion ratio is not bad. Like most middle-of-the-road steakhouses, they depend on the extra-large potato to fill the plate, completing this illusion.I usually get the larger ribeye, and have mostly been pleased. I have gotten the rib & chicken combo. Lots of food for a little less money than the steak selection.
Inexpensive steaks. Not bad for what you pay. Avoid if you have a peanut allergy. 🙂
