McClards Bar-B-Q. on Albert Pike. Big sign on the door prohibiting Concealed Weapons. I carry (with a permit) to protect myself and others if needed. In this day and age, this is becoming increasingly important. Naturally, I did not even open the door. Just down the road is a great BBQ place named Smokin In Style BBQ and they got my business today.
McClard’s has been a local treasure for years here in Hot Springs and when you stop by, you know why…Great service, delicious food and a friendly, low-key atmosphere that’s hard to come by in sitdown restaurants anymore. Try the carrot cake while you’re there, made by local Baker, Dave and his wife, Diane, it’s delicious!
I have been coming to Hot Springs for 30 years. Mc Clards is the perennial favorite. McClards is a constant in quality and service. Now operating on its forth or maybe 5th generation of McClard family ownership, I guarantee each previous generation would be proud of the state of the business today. Way to go McClards, you rock!
The beat goes on to find something worthy of being called ‘good’, ‘great’ or even ‘famous’ bbq. Today was better than normal, but the bar is not high, so take it as you will. The place was packed and it was a throwback to the old days of cafes/diners, but overall, the food was just good. Nothing made me say ‘wow’ or ‘best ever’. The best item was the potato salad. Very close to homemade and worth the money for the side. The ribs were definitely large, but had a tough casing and flavor was bland. I did not care for the sauce, and they only offer one, which is either really arrogant or very unusual. The beans are awful and creamy. We also tried the local favorite, which is the tamale spread. It was decent, but I could not decide to put it in a category of Chili, Mexican or BBQ fare. The Sweet Tea was smooth and not so sweet you gag. Some of the best I have had, for sure. While the wall claims to be the #1 in all the state, I still am searching for some decent meat.
Yummy! This place has great food & a great atmosphere. It’s a tradition that we go to McClard’s when we are in Hot Springs. 🙂 I would definitely suggest this place to my friends.
Great BBQ and excellent sides!…More characters for the review minimum length. …and still more. …and more. Really. …here’s evern more.
As if this place really needs me to tell everyone how perfect it is…. Seriously, it doesn’t get more classic in Hot Springs. Pork plates, tamales, chocolate milkshakes. The list goes on and on and on for delicious, downhome, country foods that will leave your belly achin’. It doesn’t get much better than McClard’s.
