Cute restaurant. Big portions of freezer burnt and/or canned food. I had the freezer burnt Chicken Fried Steak with over- salted brown gravy and still- flakey instant potatoes along with canned green beans. I should have known when I glanced in the kitchen and saw the big box of instant mashed potatoes- what I was in for…flat Coke…green mold on my guest’s dinner roll and daughter’a grilled cheese could be used as a hammer- she liked the chips though! If you are gonna advertise home- style southern cooking AT IT’S BEST- learn how to boil a potato and throw out the instant!

Pleasant surprise. Located in a old house across from Oaklawn Racetrack, the dining area has 11 4 tops and a small counter, decorated with antique do-dads. The breakfast is good, with omelets at $9.95 and other general fare. I would recommend this place.

Phil’s has now moved to 2900 Central.02 Apr, 2014Delicious comfort foods. Greeted by the Mayor who was also dining here. Very friendly & accommodating staff. Darling decor. Best gravy ever!

Hot Springs Surprise. On a whim, my wife Jan and I decided to have breakfast here today. From the moment we entered until we left, our gracious and friendly host Paul provided us 5* service. He said the restaurant had recently relocated from the old Howard Johnsons. The dcor was very comfortable and reminded me of some of the better B&B’s we have stayed at. Our breakfast was outstanding – especially the home made biscuits with an exquisite white gravy and the generous portion of hash browns. No more IHOP or Waffle House for us. We stumbled onto the best and most reasonable restaurant in Hot Springs for an ample and reasonably priced breakfast feast!

Good luck getting onion rings. My experience here made me think of the Kitchen Nightmare episodes I have seen. I wanted onion rings only to be told kitchen was backed up and could not do. (like 40 minutes to get them!!) We waited around 40 minutes for : 1. ice cold hash browns that were half cooked 2. Three in the party of six had items left off their plate. Waitress was NOT prompt in correcting 3. Had to ask for silverware 3. Finally told I could get onion rings . After a wait, told they had forgotten they were cooking them and they were burnt. They ASKED me if I wanted the charge removed from my bill. (why no….I always pay for burned food I did not get)Anyone have Gordon Ramsey’s phone number??

Great HOMESTYLE Cooking….. The food is as close to my mom’s as any I have ever had…. and she is an AWESOME cook….. Phil’s offers all of the traditional southern style homecooking breakfast options…. from biscuits and sausage gravy, to fried ham, bacon, or sausage with eggs, hashbrowns or grits, and some of the most delicious French toast I have ever had… topped with powdered sugar and whipped cream if you like! It is a nice quiet and cozy setting…. and offers delicious lunches with burgers, club sandwiches, and southern favorites like country fried steak, hamburger steak with grilled onions and MORE…….Phil’s also offers catering to meet your needs for special events too.
