Still a pretty good choice for lunch, but not what it once was. The place is a Jonesboro icon; but I found myself thinking the best part of my last visit was my nostalgic memories, rather than the food. The sandwiches have shrunk over the years, both in bread size and amount of meat. The famous cheese sticks aren’t what I remember them being either. It’s still better than a Subway meal, but there’s room for improvement.The staff is very friendly and they provided prompt service; however the restaurant could use a little sprucing up. Overall, I find myself wanting to like this place more than I actually do now. I’m pulling for them to improve a little.Edit: April, 2018. The place has recently changed ownership, and improvements to reclaim its former glory are coming along. The food is much improved and the dining area has been cleaned up a lot. I still think the sandwiches should be a little larger. I think ordering two sandwiches would be too much, but just one leaves me wanting just a little more. The waffle fries and cheese sticks are both very solid choices to make your taste buds smile and your nutritionist panic.
Don’t understand the reviews. I know sometimes every restaurant falls short, but really I have been to Munchy’s many times and have always had a good experience. I love the waffle fries. I love the fact that they are NOT loaded down with salt and grease. I want potato not a salt lick or three week old grease. I have had different sandwiches and have enjoyed all of them. I have never had a cold or soggy or moldy sandwich. The service has always been good and friendly. I have never seen anyone ask anyone for money in there. Yes, we have homeless people in Jonesboro. This isn’t a perfect place. They also hang out in the Library, because they can get warm, or stay dry, or get a nice cup of coffee, and sit comfortably without being treated like outcasts of society. I have never had one ask me for money or anything else. Maybe I don’t look like I can afford to help. Anyhow, each to their own. I like Munchy’s and recommend it!!!
Terrible.. What kind of sandwich shop sells a Reuben, made with cold lunch meat on cold white bread? When I saw the sign which said Specialty Sandwiches, I expected some quality deli food, and instead got a sandwich my 9yo son could have made.
Yup. About what I expected. I drove by here a few times and seen the sign showing they have been in business for over 30 year’s. I thought what the heck I will give it try any place that has been around for that long should be good. Big mistake…..I ordered the hoagie deluxe and some waffle fries. When I got my sandwich the bottom piece of bread was so soggy I couldn’t eat it not to mention it wasn’t flavorful and the fries had no seasoning at all. ugh what a waste of 9 bucks.
I Don’t Get It. They got my order wrong… I got no fries but had TWO orders of cheese sticks, and one of them was even cold. Sandwich toppings weren’t even close to what I asked for. I’d be able to excuse that if they were really busy and think I’d received someone else’s order – but I was the only customer in the place!As for the quality of the sandwich – meh. It was a sandwich. Smooshed white bread with deli meat and toppings. Nothing you couldn’t have made at home, much quicker and exactly how you’d like it.Oh, and while I was waiting, I got pan handled by a vagrant (we have those in Jonesboro?!?) INSIDE the store.I’d thought about reserving this review until I’d visited them a 2nd time, just in case my experience was an outlier… but the experience was unenjoyable that even after a month I REALLY don’t want to go back.
Waffle Fries. This joint is an institution. If it ever closes, a tiny part of me will die.
Old fashioned steamed sandwiches. Before Firehouse came along, Munchy’s was about the only place to find a good steamed sandwich you could get made to order. Straightforward, hot by steaming not baking or broiling, so the bread and cheese is soft and gooey. If that’s the kind of sandwich you like, this is one of the places to get it.
