I don’t know how many times we have been to Doe’s in Little Rock over the years, but it is still a must stop on every overnight trip we make. Great tamales and shrimp (either fried or scampi). Great steaks from the 3 pound Porterhouse up to the 6 pound Sirloin served family style with fries, boiled potatoes and Texas toast. A pretty good wine selection, a full bar and always friendly service don’t hurt either. Doe’s embodies so much of the history of Little Rock and should be on every foodies’ list – unless you are vegetarian.
Third visit and we love this place, but get there early for dinner if you want to be sure to get the 8 oz. filet (which is NOT on the lunch menu). Reservations for large parties only. Dinner service starts at 5:30 pm…we drove by at 5:10 and not a car in sight, but when we came back at 5:29, we had to park down the street.Hamburgers at lunch are great, too. We found the sirloin we ordered on the second visit to be a bit chewy, but the fries and Texas toast are consistent winners. Marinated salad is a tad limp for my taste…and as a child of the 50s, I usually love iceberg lettuce. It’s a fun, funky place and the waitstaff is superb. Did I say the beer was icy cold? It was perfect!
Disappointed. It was my first time in awhile; they still have great tamales but the steak was below average. You can’t serve less than lukewarm steaks with too much gristle
Amazing steak. The only way to get a bad steak is to overcook it. No dress code and plenty of food to please a party of 3 off of 1 steak. I’ll take any excuse to make it out for a steak!
Bareftgal. Burgers for lunch are great, but don’t waste your money on the steaks for dinner. Our steak for two was almost $60 and it was full of fat. Only 1/3 of it was edible. If it is steak you want go to Sonny Williams or Lonestar. Kobe japanese has amazing steaks also.
What a great steak and fried place. The steak is thick, cooked to order, and well seasoned.
Utterly unimpressed.. Well, I wanted to like this place and heard good things about it. But the reality was disappointing and expensive. Tamales no better than an average taco truck, maybe worse. No flavor. Nothing interesting. Good shrimp, but too expensive by far. Steak that was bland, dry and of seemingly dubious quality. We will not be back. Makes me wonder who thinks this is a keeper??
