Bad rice, bread, spice, and sausage. Well that’s about it!!! Bad allparts of Cajun food.
It’s a keeper…. J. Gumbo’s is a cute little spot located in the shopping center with Starbucks and Tropical Smoothie on Hwy 10. We were greeted upon entering and we were informed we could try a sample of anything we wanted. We ended up ordering the Crawfish cheese dip to start, it’s good, but should probably just be called Crawfish dip, not cheese dip. I also tried the Jambalaya, Red beans and rice, Crawfish Etouffee and Vodoo Chicken. The Crawfish Etouffee and Vodoo Chicken both really stood out. You just walk up and order, they make your food in front of you, kind of like Subway. J. Gumbo’s does offer beer and wine (decent beer selection, not a great wine selection), beer is a little high, 13.00 for three bottles of beer. Dishes run from $7.00-$9.00, so very reasonable. I recommend they add a cider or two to the beer menu, a sweet cider would be nice with some of the spicier dishes. Also, would be a great sport for lunch, they are really fast with to-go orders. Employees are very courteous and prompt.
Love this place. Cool thing is they let you try samples of literally whatever you like before you decide. I love the drunken and voodoo chicken. Seafood gumbo is spot on!! ARTWORK AND DECOR IN STORE IS AMAZING!! Pic of John Henry and Bass Reeves are classic pieces!!

Good gumbo. Several types of gumbo, good beer, good location. Only wish they would offer an option for cheaper, smaller portions so I could try a few different types while also enjoying a healthy portion of their main gumbo. I’ll be back!
Great food, great service, awesome price. Excellent gumbo that is reasonably priced. Most items around $6-8. Staff is very friendly and is willing to let you sample items. There are several dishes of varying degrees of spice. They also have a good beer selection including a good selection of Abita beers. Will be back soon and often.
