I had a burger and my husband had the ham and cheese. We also ordered the shrimp gumbo and queso and salsa. The gumbo was outstanding. The burger was good. The ham and cheese was skippable. Great beer selection, including a few stouts.
If you think you should get your salad, soup, and main course at the same time, this place is for you! The staff apparently isn’t aware that some people don’t just drink beer all night. The concept of a multi-course meal is better understood at Franke’s.
The perfect example of an interior design convincing people that it’s a place they should frequent. There may not be worse food in Little Rock except for Loca Luna, which breaks records for most money made from inedible food. They par cook their lamb chops to medium which is the first sign that they have no clue of what to do in a kitchen. And every server will tell you that the Steamed Artichoke is the must-get appetizer when you can’t even breathe from the amount of balsamic vinegar boiled into the choke. Will never go back and can’t encourage people enough to stay away from this place. But, Gerry Mertins did a beautiful job.
Been here a few times now and thought I would comment. The food is consistently good, the service had been very good and the environment is very good. For lunch today I had the special which was catfish with slaw and fries. It was all very good. We also has the pork rinds which were full of flavor and fresh. I highly recommend Samantha’s for lunch or dinner. They also have a great bar.Went back for lunch today and again the food and service were very good. I had the Tuesday special, the burrito which was very good. Also had the sauted mushroom for an appetizer and it was good too.
Good environment, average food, poor customer service. Very poor experience! Glad I did not have to embarrass guests by bringing them here. It appears the beauty of Samantha’s Tap Room is only skin deep. Our issues started when we arrived. We were told to expect a 20 minute wait due to numerous reservations ahead of us. They took my number and wrote it down. It’s interesting that they wrote it down, rather than put it in the system right away. Why would they do that? To deceive you, the customer. That way, their site does not show a wait because we are not in the computer. I take serious issue with any organization that condones such a glaring lack of integrity. 20 minutes later we were in the system, and 15 minutes after that, we were seated. The whole of that time there were open tables not being utilized.Afterwards our waitress was no where to be found. We sat alone (and by this point thirsty) for over 10 minutes without any acknowledgment from any staff member. To her credit our waitress was busy with a table that was cashing out, but, rather than acknowledge us and let us know she would be right with us, she simply ignored us, despite walking past us several times. In fact, after that, she took the time to go bus another table and collect her tip money before finally getting to us, only to admit that she was not much of a beer drinker and couldn’t provide a lot of help to my wife in selecting a beer she would enjoy (hint: don’t try to the blueberry beer!). This did afford us lots of time to watch their operations. The next big concern was the bus staff. The salt and pepper is served in these small jars (think cream dispensers at a nice breakfast place). Well, in order to clean the table underneath them, THEY PUT THEIR FINGERS IN THEM TO MOVE THEM! If you ate their tonight and thought your salt tasted like someone else’s steak, thats probably what it was. Just think, everything that they had handled and touched, including the dirty plates they had just cleared, was now all up in the salt and pepper! The food was average at best and overpriced. My wife’s chicken parmasean sandwich was well cooked and delicious, but without any sides, hardly enough to constitute a meal. My pork chops were well seasoned, but in order to get them to cook quickly, they use paper thin chops. This resulted in them being overcooked. The mashed potatoes were good, but nothing special. Again, all in all, average food at best and hardly worth the price for the small portions. Finally, when it came time to leave, there was again no help to be found. Our waitress was scurrying around, but it took her another 10 minutes to get to us and get our check. All told, we spent over 90 minutes to get average food, 1 good beer and 1 not, and poor service. Many of the issues seemed to stem from a lack of leadership. There was no manager to be seen anywhere and the staff behaved accordingly. But hey, at least the walls were painted a pretty color!
