Ribs are great. The service was great. I had the ribs and brisket. The ribs were good but the brisket was too lean. Beans and salad were good. Coleslaw was bland.
Awful service! We came in for lunch on a Sunday. They were not crowded. The waitress walked by our table four times before she noticed our four drinks lined up at the edge of the table needing refills. My son ordered the sausage biscuit off the kids brunch menu, and the sausage was a barely cooked piece of frozen sausage. It came on a biscuit on a plate by itself, but our server didn’t even notice it was missing the side of fruit. The rest of the food was just ok; totally not worth the bad service. Our family will not be eating here again.
Lousy all around. Food was a poor example of BBQ – all over-cooked and covered in sauce. Service was poor – bar tender was more interested in talking with her friend than serving us. My hands are covered in BBQ sauce and I ask for some extra napkins. She hands me a metal napkin dispenser! At least the music was good.
We had a great meal. The appetizers were huge, so we were almost full by the time our food came. Our entree was delicious. Also since it was our first time there, we both got free fried twinkies. The service was fast and friendly.
Shorty Small’s’ food is wonderful. Good composition, hot, and fresh. In terms of service, our server (Tara) brought us plates upon greeting that had food on them, we asked two more times for clean plates; to no avail. Repugnant, and belligerant was her reaction when we voiced our frustration. All in all: cooks have their stuff down, but this one in particular (Tara) needs to be fired.
Same as it ever was. Shorty Smalls has been the same restaurant for the past 20 years. I am sure they have been in business longer, but that is as long as I feel comfortable in admitting I have been eating there.As to the poor review by KevyB, I am sorry you got crappy service on a night they were slammed, but you really missed the essence of the restaurant.What Shorty Smalls is:Great place to go have a couple of beers and maybe stay for dinner. The portions are always generous and the food is always acceptable. The atmosphere is always upbeat and sometimes a little raucous.The food here is bar fare plus a little more. The macho nachos are a massive pile of yummies for table to share. The chicken fried steak covers a whole plate. The cheese sticks are the giant redwoods of the cheese stick world. Again, the portions are big.The quality has always been consistent at Shorty’s. I have never had a meal that was prepared in a faulty manner. That being said, do not expect a culinary masterpiece to emerge from the kitchen. The BBQ ribs and sandwich are good. Are they the best in Little Rock? Not by a long shot. Same goes for the burgers and tex mex selections. All very good, but none are going to make you weep openly at the table with the regret that you have not eaten every meal of your life there. You should leave full and happy, but your life will not be forever changed.Shorty Smalls has a diverse menu, so it is a good place for groups. There is bound to be something on the menu that everyone at the table will like. It is a fun atmosphere and the service is good with servers that are smiling and upbeat. Also, the kids menu is good. And on Monday night, kids eat free.All in all, Shorty Smalls has a purpose and fills a need nicely. The best way I can describe it is that Shorty’s makes a great Chili’s alternative. You get a casual vibe, good cocktails, a menu broad enough for everyone, and choices for the kids.
The worst ever!. How is this place even in business? Words cannot explain how disappointed I am in the food & service. Our waitress was preoccupied with a 14 top next to us, and couldn’t be bothered to take care of us. Not only did I not receive my dinner salad, but my steak was brought out VERY well done. I ordered it medium rare. I would have complained, but the manager and waitress were busy trying to correct a billing mishap with the party of 14. I feel ignored, unappreciated, and I have no confidence that it would have been corrected. I’ll not be back.
