Second time to this Old Chicago. The restaurant is beginning to look its age and in some ways it being maintained very well. We were promptly seated with about half the restaurant full. We ordered cocktails but the server didnt understand what a Manhattan was so I had to explain so he could tell the bartender. Drinks were ok. I started with the tomato basil soup which had a nice bite to it and was flavored well. It was a little think for me but ok. I then had the Italian steak sandwich and fries. The fries were you run of the mill fries, just ok. The sandwich was probably a 9 sandwich, very large. The sandwich was fresh and very good, not to much steak though. My wife had a custom macaroni cheeseDish that was very good. The server was pretty new and not trained very well but tried to do well.
Having tried all of the iconic Chicago deep dish pizzas in the WindyCity, the pizza here was quite underwhelming (I ordered the Chicago 7). Thepizza was overcooked. The crust was too thin and dry, thepepperoni was dry, and there wasn’t enough cheese. The bright spot was the garlic cheese bread appetizer.
