I refuse to come back. Imagine watching several tables seated after you being served hot food while you sit..glass empty and wait. When I finally inquire about our food I was told the hibachi was backed up. Sooooo I point out other people that came in after us and were enjoying hot hibachi. Then I’m told my food was ready but not the rest of my party. So I exclaim that I am going to be served cold food??? Then magically all our food appears. And all of our food is cold. Mine was a fried dish so it was cold and hard and stale tasting. The manager is told about this and her response was that it was not held for longer than 30 minutes so they will not do anything about it. I mean I spent 64$$$ it’s not like I ordered a dollar menu happy meal. I made a very nice order and paid a very nice price to be treated poorly , be served terrible food and be lied to!!! I will never come back. And from the looks of other reviews I am not the only one they have done this too. Seems it’s their custom.
I just left the restaurant. My wife was served her meal in a timely manner, but I was not. I asked three separate times about my food but was never even told that they were working on it. By the time I was served, my wife was done eating. The owner brought it out and sat it down with no explanation or apology. The scallops were still raw and I told her so. She told me that is the way they cook them. I told her that I don’t eat raw scallops and she offered to cook them further. She brought them out and immediately brought my check. She never apologized or offered any explanation or acknowledged that my experience was anything out of the ordinary. Obviously, that will be the last money I spend there. Thankfully a Japanese Steak House is being built in Russellville now.
Umami has a pretty decent traditional asian food menu. The food is normally good. The sushi menu will surprise you in arkansas. The service is slow. If you order sushi plan on the rest of your party finishing their meal before you get yours. Just order it to go!!The dining area is cramped and be prepared to feel like your eating your meal with strangers.
Foodie. I would absolutely avoid this place.. Some of the worst service I have ever encountered. I dined in to find some overpriced sushi but OK atmosphere. The second time I ordered take out. First off I was given the wrong menu by the hostess. After finding the correct one on my own I ordered and came back 10 minutes later. The hostess who I had just talked to asked how many in my party and I said I was just here for pick up. She immediately turned away as if I were not an actual customer. I then waited for another person to come to the counter. After she asked if I was their for take out even though she just took my order 10 minutes early I replied yes and she waited about 5 more minutes before getting my order which was on the counter. To top it of she gave me the to-go container upside down, which leaked all the sauce all over my car. I have never seen such poor service in my entire life.
Lackluster food. My last two visits here have not been up to par. On the most recent (2-8-14) there was little good about my dish. I got the Yucheson’s feast ($22/$23) or something like that. It was a hibachi combo dinner with filet Mignon, chicken, and shrimp with fried rice. The filet was so tough I couldn’t chew it. Ordered it medium rare and it was medium/medium well. The chunks of meat were large and a filet should be tender enough to cut with a fork. This wasn’t. The chicken was tough as well and the shrimp was blah. The rice was sticky and unspectacular. This is the second time my steak was chewy/tough. Not sure I even want to go back and pay that kind of money for that quality of food.
I just overheard a bit of info. Can it be true that at umami, the servers have to pool their tips and split the pool over 50 percent to the kitchen and bar? Even after the kitchen workers are paid minimum wage? Do you know that the average server only makes 3.50 an hour? Why in the world should they have to give over 50 percent to the kitchen and bar whom all are paid at least minimum wage? I hope that every single server that works there quits, and that no server would subject themselves, when there is slit more fairness to be had out there. Umami you need to rethink this set up.
Great bento lunch special. Only $9.95 with lots of food.
