Overrated. I went to this spot with husband and grown daughter because of excellent reviews that I now think were overly generous. The food was good. The food was not great. The mashed potatoes were weak. The bread was great, but I hate myself when I eat too much bread before the meal. The gnocchi was not so great. The lamb was good but tough. The mussels appetizer was very good, the best thing we ordered. The service was very good. The ambiance was not so good, as the place is tight, and there were a lot of families with kids in a fine restaurant just not intended for family dining. Not for kids and not for adults because too many people toting little kids, but I’m old school on this issue.

Impromptu dinner (of awesomeness). So out with the family, on our way back from some wine tasting and we wanted some food. A quick google of the Alameda area said Asena was good so we checked it out. We got there, it was busy inside but had loads of nice seating in their little alleyway outside so we opted for that. The Spring Menu was a good mix of dishes, something for everyone. We discovered, if there is something you’re particularly desiring then no problem, they will make it for! This was a real touch! We all loved our meals and enjoyed the surroundings and the staff. I’d go back, definitely!

It is a small restaurant but has good mediterranean Italian food. Parking available across the street for Asena patrons only. My wife loves their lamb bit I am an Osso Bucco man myself.

Compact but fabulous Mediterranean food. Save room for dessert.
