A place nearby to grab lunch. The people who work there are really friendly and yet the price is affordable. I would definitely come here more often. …

Add 20% to all of these prices.. Bocanova now has a mandatory 20% service charge added to your check. Regardless of the quality of service (which is inconsistent) or quality of the food (which is usually good), the amount is always 20%. The argument is that with an increasing minimum wage in the Bay Area, the disparity in pay between front of the house waitstaff and back of the house cooks and dishwashers has become too great. The owners decided to add a mandatory tip to each customers check rather than opt for another solution such as pooling tips and adjusting the distribution or simply posting actual prices and paying a flat living wage.
Fabulous cuisine. Must try the fried peppers and crab deviled eggs. The duck tacos were to die for.
Not Worth it. Nice setting in Jack London Square by the wharf. I had the ribs and they were only so-so. Did not fall off the bone. The lamb for one guest was 15 min late and waiter dropped some of the peppers, then replaced with pappas fritas. Every item is unbundled and even the papas fritas were $9.00. Pertions were small and prices sky high. Definitely not worth it.
Nice ambience , reasonable service, very mediocre food! This is not nearly as good as acote…
Either it was the chefs night off or many people do not know what good food is. The food was bland & underseasoned. Gazpacho terrible. Tomatillo & white choc mole? Are you kidding? Worst meal i hve eaten in CA.
Amazing Dinning Experience. Passed by this place on a Friday night and decided to stop in. The atmosphere was great. I loved the inside: high ceilings, very open and spacious. Made it a bit noisy, but also felt electric and bustling. I enjoy this tapas-style of eating. The quinoa salad was my favorite of the night – just the right mix of flavors. I am a sweet potato lover, but was disappointed by the sweet potato and chipolte gratin. Little bland and slimy. Looking around at other tables, the pork ribs were the obvious favorite and they didn’t disappoint! Ended the meal with PHENOMENAL chocolate croissant bread pudding. Would go back in a heart beat.
This was such a great dish!! The flavors are wonderful. The menu does not tell you but I do know the pork is also fried in duck fat just before it is plated. Outstanding dish!! Don’t pass up!01 Mar, 2012It was oh so good!26 Feb, 2012Wonderful!. What a wonderful experience! We made reservations for an early dinner at the last minute and sat at the kitchen bar so we could watch the cooking taking place. Everyone is very friendly from the host to the kitchen and wait staff. Our waitress was very helpful, she introduced us to the staff cooking in the kitchen when we sat down, they were all great, lots of charm. Their wine selections is good, beer is average, however there is a nice selection of custom cocktails. The food menu has a number of items to choose from small dishes and larger dishes. The best way to order is a few dishes at a time working your way down the menu. I enjoy sharing dishes with my fellow diners this way you can taste more items. We were able to ask questions and watch as they prepared the many dishes from the menu.Bocanova uses a number of fresh local ingredients in their dishes. We had the chips and sauce, deviled eggs with fresh crab, Harache (flat bread pizza, loved this dish! dont miss it!), scallops, brussels sprouts, flank steak and bread pudding for dessert. Everything was wonderful, fresh and flavorful. The restaurant is large with a bar centered in the middle you can order lunch/dinner at as well; the ambiance/lighting is low and romantic in the evening. There is outdoor seating with heaters, the patio overlooks the water and looks to be a great place for dinner or lunch during the summer. I am looking forward to cocktails and dinner on the patio this summer! Parking is easy and validation makes it very reasonable. Average dinner per person with drinks $55-65 without tip.
