Carnitas plate. I’m not a huge Aqui fan. This solidifies my dislike for the restaurant. The dish is downright strange. It’s not even THAT bad, just weird. Now, I’m not saying I hate diversity – just this kind of diversity. The pork is tough and, if I recall correctly, comes smothered in a strong sauce (one that I promptly removed). It’s a so-so dish at a so-so restaurant. Try at your own risk, of course.Rating: 4.2/1009 Feb, 2011Aqui Cal-Mex (Mexican, California). Aqui Cal-Mex in Downtown Willow Glen has a great menu, and a fun, lively atmosphere. Sadly, what’s written on the menu doesn’t translate to the plate. No dish has lived up to it’s promising description. Either over sauced, overcooked, or just plain bad, Aqui never fails to disappoint. Often you receive a dish covered in a terrible sauce that ruins the whole dish. This restaurant is well overrated. On the upside, though, the service is speedy, and the Flourless Chocolate Cake is delectable. Try at your own risk.Best Dishes: Flourless Chocolate CakeRating: 4/10 tasteperiod.blogspot.com
Fresh Fast Friendly. Loved all the fresh options and the plated samples of the day’s specials on display. Super fast and efficient for it’s size and staff were keeping up with the crazy lunch rush like pros. Can’t say the Carnitas was a religious experience, but the crunchy jimica slaw with pumpkin seeds(?), generous and varied veg toppings and colorful, spicy condiments def made me feel like I was being good to myself. If I had drinking buddies in this town I’d be up there right now with a swirl margarita and app’ies.
Delicious, affordable, unique, and healthy cal-Mex. Best and strongest margarita in San Jose–limit yourself.
One of Willow Glen’s most popular restaurants and bar. Food is alright. Overall, a bit over rated by locals. Nevertheless, a popular yuppie hang-out, if that’s what you like. Yuppie styled food and atmosphere, plus prices. Prices somewhat high for serve your self concept.
The food here was not good. The beef was tough. The chicken was of good quality but lacked taste. The place also had a fast-food atmosphere. I would pass this one by the next time. There have to be much better Mexican restarants in town.
Great cal-Mex blend. Healthy and yummy. Had most everything on menu an love it all (except the soup). Total must have is the Oliver Margerita.
What is with the creepy art???. When I am having a cerveza at a watering hole with nice food, why do I need to look at a picture with a guy in a grave and all these people chasing him there? Creepy…..
