First of all, I had a bad first impression of Cafe Stella a few weeks prior as I made a reservation through opentable, turned up and the place was closed for renovation! Definitely a bummer but it was so highly recommended by all my friends in LA I persisted and made another reservation. This time we were met with lovely food and great service. For a quiet, late dinner my friend and I shared the charcuterie platter which was delicious. I had the house gnocchi which was the perfect portion size and a French 77. I also snuck a few truffle fries from my friends order, they were soooooooooo good! This lovely experience definitely erased the not so great previous visit.
Intimate and cute. Very cute and intimate restaurant. food was pretty good, too!
Poor Service Good Food. I can get this combination at too many places. The staff is not doing me a favor by showing up to work that day.
For bad food and bad service go to cafe Stella. This cafe is tired and trite, offering below par fare for disproportionate cost. The fake Parisian-bistro decor, complete with clumsy Picasso-like drawing, the dark (too dim to eat by) lighting and the surly attitude from the waiting staff (who seem to have confused the restaurant with a film set) do nothing for this venue. The food emulates french cuisine in name only and leaves a bitter taste, especially after receiving the bill. I was looking forward to visiting this cute little bistro again after having had a reasonable meal here last time. Alas, it was not to be. The first bad sign was the actress wearing the requisite french cloche playing the maitre d’. The next sign was the waiter with the surly, dismissive attitude who left us waiting for drinks for almost a decade. The food once ordered turned up missing half the portion – I ordered the chicken with papardelle, which was served in a soup of dark broth with one (yes, one!) piece of pasta ribbon. When I asked the same waiter if this was a standard serving he came back, dumped a side plate of pasta on the table and retorted tritely ‘everything good here then?’Although one does not really expect ‘fine dining’ at these little neighbourhood places, some pretense of caring might help in bolstering the reputation Cafe Stella had as a cute little bistro.Thoroughly disappointing and overpriced.
A- Great ambiance!. I really loved dining here. It was very romantic. Our food was very good too – we got the typical steaks & fries, which were yummy.
A must!. A mandatory stop for dinner if you’re in LA
