Canel is a neighborhood restaurant with a 100% of the ingredients coming from the farmers market (Atwater Farmers Market across the street on Sundays & Santa Monica Farmers Market on Wednesday). The owner Corina cooks, serves, greets and gives you her magical Canel s on your way out.Great happy hour specials, a very comfort food menu all at a comfortable price.Check it out. facebook.com
HORRIBLE!. This is one of the worst restaurants I have ever eaten at. It started with a rude hostess who would only seat us at one table. The table are SO close together that the man behind me touched my shoulder every time he ate. There were plenty of open tables but she seated everyone next to each other. When the man who was seated behind went to leave, he accidentally moved his chair back and slammed into my chair literally causing me to lurch forward. The real kicker is that the food was so salty, that it was intolerable. I ordered the Bistro Steak and the potatoes were burnt, the greens were brown and the sauce was brown. The whole plate was one, salty brown mess. If you order a glass of wine it comes in a small bistro glass. If you bring your own bottle of wine, they give you a big beautiful crystal glass. All for the price of $110.00 for two people.
WINE TASTING DINNER. Admittedly, it is not a true measure of a restaurant judging it only on a special occasion. But, if the food at the recent wine tasting dinner is 1/10 of the restaurant’s capability, Canele belongs among the gems of LA. We’ll be back.
GREAT….but… The food was exceptional but I will be calling them to complain about the ridiculously SMALL glasses they used for their $10/glass wine. Literally, if I’d been able to measure, tops 3oz! Tacky. AND served in what looked like a small juice glass so you couldn’t swirl it to enjoy the aroma. Just awful. But I will say that the food was delish and will go back if they are nice enough to comp a bottle next time. We had 4 glasses so that’s the least they can do. BTW, it got so busy after we had our appetizers and it was my birthday so I didn’t want to bring it up to the wait staff that night.
ODDLY GOOD FOOD. Not your usual chicken and potoatos food. Special care in blending ingredients, side dishes, desserts, outstanding. Unique combinations and superior tastes go into the passion of the meals. Must try.
A nice locals vibe. We like coming here–sometimes sit at the communal table with the most interesting folks. A few steps away is CCH Pounder’s gallery, pluse some other little funky places. But getting back to the food–terrific! It’s the whole package for me–ambience, food and locale.
