Delicious german sausage. This place is a MUST go! This is the perfect place to eat some delicious german food like sausage and sauerkraut. We had the Sausage platter in appetizer and it was a huge plate with 3 delightful sausage (bratwurst, knackwurst, smoked bockwurst, served with pickles, peppers and mustard). This is perfect for a group with beer but we were just two (my boyfriend and i) so the platter was enough for both of us. The service was really kind.

This establishment once represented German food and culture with German style. Now it is just a dirty hipster dive bar in Silver Lake with German memorabilia on the walls for decoration. If you are looking for a restaurant with German culture, Do Not Stop Here –> Keep Looking.

German Pubby Goodness. I’m not usually one for brief reviews but… brats, beers, beers IN brats, and waitresses in lederhosen. ‘Nuff said. Sit in the patio with a crowd. Sit on the ground floor as a pair — the piano man is a riot.

Great Food. If you love German food this is the place for you. I was there some years ago and couldn’t remember the name correctly but finally ran across it again. Don’t miss out on this treat!

Great place to hang with friends. The food is great (especially the sausage platter) and the multi-room labyrinthine environment is a lot of fun (even when desperately searching for the bathroom). My girlfriend loves the beer selection and so did all of our friends when we met en masse to celebrate her birthday.

Pub Grub in Glendale. The title of this story is Pub Grub. It rhymes but does it match? I have been writing/thinking about this for a few weeks now; I have visited a few restaurants that I would put in the category of having pub grub. I have visited Lucky Baldwins, Yard House, Crown City Brewery, and Brits and have fond memories of the Old John Bull on Fair Oaks. I finally put it all together after a visit to the Red Lion Tavern in Glendale. I was trying to compare apples to oranges and yes – Pub Grub to a Steak House. Unfair! The under lying bond at all of the pub grub places is an unpretentious good time. The comedy about my search for the good food was that in all the times that I mentioned, the food was just okay and at a certain pub the common reply was, yea but did you try the fish and chips? Okay, No! I didnt. Either fish and chips are incredibly easy to make or these restaurants all get their cod from the same purveyor. The star at all of the above restaurants is the wide selection of beer – dark, light, bottled, filtered or on tap. The Red Lion Tavern in Glendale opened in 1962 and up until 3 years ago was owned by the same owners. The restaurant is two levels with bars on each level. My party enjoyed potato pancakes, schnitzel, a sausage platter, Hungarian Goulash and Beef Rouladen. Go to their web site http://www.redliontavern.net for the complete menu. Prices range from $10 to $20. Portions are large , and very suitable for sharing. Ask for extra picklesReasons to go: Live music Thursday thru Sunday Night. Weather permitting, go to the upstairs patio and enjoy a cold beer with friends. Menu lends itself to sharing; Sausage Platter with Knackwurst, Bratwurst and Bockwurst. Atmosphere is very relaxed.Hours: Monday through Sunday 11 Am to 1 AM. Dinner starts at 5 PMReasons to stay away: Sorry I dont smoke, but you can stay at the bottom floor bar to stay clear of the smokers
