VERY impressive building and dcor. Really feels like something that was lifted out of Scotland and placed in L.A. The food is tasty and unique, and the service has been utterly superb every time I have been there.

This review is for the Sandwich and Ale bar section. We stopped here on a Sunday evening at 7:30 PM and found parking on the street and walked in. I was so surprised to find the place empty. The Hostess warmly greeted us, and explained that there’s 3 sections: the formal dining room, the Sandwich and Ale bar with a lighter menu, and the Pub. The Sandwich and Ale bar and the Pub are first come seating, and we can order off the full menu from any section. We sat down at the Sandwich and Ale section, and the server handed us the sandwich bar and the regular menu. We decided on the Sandwich bar because I wanted the roast pork plate, and the formal dining room didn’t serve it. Apparently if you want carved meats, you don’t place your order with the server. That’s for other items like Fish n Chips or Shepherd’s Pie. For carved meats like roast beef, prime rib, brisket, or in my case, the roast pork, you walk up to the carving station and tell the carver what you want.Similar to Lawry’s, the carver slices my roast pork to order, added the mashed potatoes and gravy, and I asked if I wanted creamed corn or creamed spinach. I chose the creamed corn. The plate of roast pork was $19, and it was a generous portion. The roast pork was a little fatty but very tender and melted in my mouth. Stephen ordered the Shepherds Pie which came with a mixed salad. It was smaller than I anticipated. The inside was was full of ground beef and some vegetables. The crust of mashed potatoes on top was not as toasty as I thought it should be. Overall, I thought it was a little overpriced for $22, and thought it could be a bit more. Stephen let me try it and I thought it was just ok. A bit disappointing..Dinner for 2 at the sandwich bar came to $47, before tip. and no drinks. Overall it’s a lot cheaper than eating at the dining room, and I enjoyed my carved plate. Reservations are not excepted for the Sandwich and Ale bar or the Pub, but you can make reservations for the dining room. Your Lawry’s VIP rewards points can be applied to any part of the restaurant as well.No self service parking on site, but you can park on the street. Another Lawry’s location checked off my list. callmemochelle.com
Love it!. Okay, it’s a little stuffy — and maybe the prime rib isn’t the absolute best in the world — but it’s extremely good. The service is wonderful — especially when you consider the goofy costumes the servers have to wear. Chocolate souffle is amazing. Make reservations. I don’t care when I try to go; if I don’t have a reservation, I don’t get in. I learned the hard way. CALL AHEAD! BUT DEFINITELY CALL! I promise you won’t be disappointed.
