From the outside, it looks like a beat-up gem… and from the inside, its exactly that. Not the place to go to spend $100 a plate and listen to piano, but absolutely the place to go if you are looking for a unique blend of vibrant flavors in a casual but alluring environment. I had a plate of bread, 2 glasses of house Cabernet, the skillet shrimp, a house salad (BRILLIANT flavors for such a simple side dish… grapes, feta, mixed greens, etc) and their signature / only desert, and spent $47 (for ALL of that… add it up). The portions were reasonable, and I was literally scrapping the skillet with my perfectly-steamed rice at the end (P.S.-They are generous when they describe something as, spicy, and this is coming from someone who has a poor tolerance of spicy things). The desert was essentially a well-executed virgin bananas fosters… I only ever love chocolate, but this absolutely hit the spot. As for the atmosphere, ambient chatter travels poorly, but not so obnoxious as a downtown bar… really just enough to create an organic buffer between conversations; its definitely prime for casual conversation. Subdued, cozy, and warm. The sort of place I want to bring someone from out of town to say, Look! This city isnt so bad… and heres part of the reason why!
