Pretty good place. Dinner was nice fresh fish and atmosphere was really great right on the water. Service was pretty casual for $35+a plate. I don’t know if I would come back or recommend but pretty fair. Burger my friend ordered was under cooked.
Usually having a drink at the bar here and a bite to eat is an enjoyable experience but last Sunday i had not only the worst service ever at this restaurant but of any place i have eaten. We were a party of 10, with as reservation. I called ahead and had spoken with both a manager and hostess staff communicating we were celebrating a birthday as well as all in town for business and were looking forward to a special night. The helpfulness and accommodations of the morning were a complete 180 from the service received at dinner. We arrived on time at 6:30, did not have our orders taken until after 7:15 after having to ask to do so, received our food after 8:10, after having to ask the hostess stand to look into the wait, found used and dirty wine glasses on our table, did not get unused glasses bussed, had to ask to have our table bussed and when we did the server asked what we needed removed as if there was nothing for him to do. Multiple complaints were made to various staff members but no manager ever came to check on us. Having been in fine dinning food service previously myself one would have expected a manager to step in. Oh, and they never put in half my order. I was the birthday girl. really? thanks. It was not only a disappointment to see such bad service from a restaurant that charges around $30 and up per plate, but considering we had a group who had flown in from across the country all walk away with bad moods and frustration, well – that really isn’t worth the money we paid.No waiter apologized for the wait or addressed the food taking too long. A portion of the meal was forgotten, dirty glass wear on the table when we arrived, and waiters talking back when asked to bus the table. Thanks but no thanks – long time customer throwing in the towel. I may have a cocktail in the bar once in a while but this door will never see me foot out for a nice dinner again.
Lobster Robbery. Overpriced would be the first word that comes to mind when I think of the Cannery. I mean $32 for a measly lobster sushi roll-lets be real here people…that is grossly overpriced. I kept looking at the item description to see if it stated that it came with a happy ending or at the very least an ass/breast grab for $32, but I saw nothing of the sort. Don’t get me wrong, the food is tasty, but again, it is OVERPRICED. What do you expect though…its Newport. The overall experience was great. I enjoyed the Jellyfish Lounge, the view, and the overall casual feel that you get from this location. The people watching is above par as well as the wait staff. In all honesty I will end up coming back to this location seeing as many of my friends enjoy coming here, but if I had a personal choice, I don’t know that this would be the first place I would pick to visit for a meal.
The place is stylish and the service quite good, but the fish was not fresh at all. I didn’t enjoy the food. Maybe I just made the wrong choice.
What a treat!. Sit outside overlooking the bay…sushi…saki…THE best sourdough bread on earth…add in great friendly service and you have an amazing, relaxing evening! Will definitely go back!
It’s all in the Waiter. You can get an excellent or a horrible waiter/waitress anywhere you go. We got lucky on our first try at the Cannery. We landed here by mistake, visiting the area from Laguna Niguel. We loved it since we walked in, great service, attentive to our needs and special diets. Since it was our first time in, he brought us a free LARGE dessert at the end (to die for berries and ice cream), and didn’t charge for it. Not many people will do that for just anyone! Will definitely come back, and soon! Great ambiance.
Don’t bother. Too busy to care.
