Most places in Berkeley did not allow for reservations on the weekend for brunch butFivedid and accommodated our large party. I ordered Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon, my favourite brunch delicacy of all time. They were a little stingy with the Hollandaise but very generous with the salmon and spinach. We all thoroughly enjoyed the food and had no complaints at all.Our personal experience was that the customer service was impeccable, completely the opposite to what I had read online. Our coffee cups were constantly being refreshed and our server remembered that I only drank decaf so I could relax and be present while the carafe appeared over my shoulder.I have never been to a place quite likeFivebefore with its tropical black and white Damasks design and stunning chandeliers. It was a wildly special dining experience. Perhaps the opulence of the spot created unrealistic expectations for those online reviewers? I could find no fault withFivein any way.Fivegives you the space to eat and speak over food without having to shout. It is classy and the customer service was impeccable. We all loved our meal and the restaurant is fabulous.I give this foodie dining experience five out of five wooden spoons. This place made you feel special and taken care of. A one of a kind experience. suziethefoodie.com

Shows lots of promise….. I want to preface this review by I will by going back to this place because there is a lot to like about it. The NO CORKAGE fee being only one of the many things. I liked, let me rephrase that, I loved the dcor. Given the space I thought that it all worked. The juxtaposition of styles really gives the space a very comfortable and spacious feel and you never get the claustrophobic feeling that you have in some places. Also, the tables are not on top of each other, which I LOVED. Every setting seems to be an intimate one. As far as the food, we ordered pretty much the entire menu. The oysters with the shot of bar-b-q sauce on them we all agreed were a little in the small side, but tasted fine, the stuffed squash blossoms could have used a little more salt, and finally the tuna tartare which is generally a table favorite, seemed to be overpowered by the vanilla bean. With the next courses came and the highly anticipated pork belly and we all thought that It was very disappointing. What we received was more akin to carnitas. Everything else was fine, with the mac n’ cheese being another low point of the night. All of us liked the smoked salmon. All the components of this dish worked well, and we ended up ordering an extra for the table. The one thing on the menu that I was dying to try (short rib pot roast), was not being presented that night, so I settled on the duck conift and it was fabulous-Perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned. Definitely the hands down favorite at the table. The lamb was very good and cooked as requested. The one dish that did fall a little flat was the petrale sole. Although cooked and presented fine just a little too much salt. We ordered sides of the creamed spinach (SKIP this one) and the onion rings. The rings were excellent and we ended up ordering extra for the table as they seemed to compliment all the entrees. As for desserts, we tried the chocolate cake (basic, but fine), the butterscotch pudding (did not WOW us) and the nectarine crisp (FANTASTIC). So when it was said and done, what did we think. We all thought that they were still working the kinks out and that there was enough to make us all want to come back. Service was excellent and the value for the money was definitely there. We’ve decided to wait a few weeks and then we’ll try it again.
