Great homemade take away ice cream. // Boston creme on cone OR strawberry balsamic reduction ice cream. Fun place on college.
Ici (Desserts/Ice Cream). Ici (pronounced e-c) is a top shop in a town obsessed with ice cream. Berkeley and neighboring North Oakland are renowned for their vast array of delicious, chilled sweet shops. Between Smitten, Almare, CREAM, Tara’s, and this joint, the towns have plenty to go around. Though all are unique, Ici is by far the fanciest and most artisanal. Small, intimate, and filled with flowery aromas, the place feels more like a bath and body works than a creamery. Eleven flavors are featured each day, including unusual scoops like Rose and Brown Sugar Oatmeal. Everything is homemade, and everything is delicious, from cone, to cream, to toppings. While the ice cream is excellent, the freshly baked, organic cones are nothing short of special. The only downside is the textural inconsistency of the dessert. Ici’s ice cream isn’t very creamy and has its fair share of crystals. Toppings like graham cracker are mixed in, making for grainy, mushy bites. Awesome as it is, Ici’s product has a few flaws, dropping it down my list of best Bay Area scoops. Being near the top in this crazy region is still high praise, though, so give them a look if the line isn’t too long.Rating: 7.9/10 tasteperiod.blogspot.com
NOT Overrated. Every time I had walked by this place somebody from my group of friends would make a comment about how they didn’t understand why there was always a line down the street for this place because it was so overrated.Well, my friends have no idea what they are talking about (maybe they were keeping me away so there was more left for them?!). This place is an experience – adorable and well kept on the inside, adorable and well kept young staff, and incredible ice cream (variety of flavors), treats, and coffees. My favorite, even though the earl great is wonderful, is the affogato: two scoops of vanilla ice cream with a shot of espresso topped with orange peel. Worth every penny – and the wait in line.
Earl Grey Ice Cream!!!. This is the best flavor ice cream I have tasted in my life! This place may be small, but the line gets really long. They got ice cream, cakes, and other yummy yummy stuff. It’s a kind of ice cream with the right amount of sweetness. It’s light and very enjoyable. Unlike many big-brand ice cream, you get a balanced feeling after eating instead of craving for water.
Great ice cream. Some of the freshest around! great flavors. thank you!!
Ok my girlfriends picked up a quart of rose vanilla ice cream on my birthday party night- it was friggin truly orgasmic! A major treat for the senses. The next morning we ate the rest for breakfast. Basically now I have to buy a special cooler so I can transport it back to my house up north.
Earl Grey Tea + Ice Cream = Genius!. For a second, I thought the combination of earl grey tea and ice cream was ridiculous. But I do love earl grey. And I do love ice cream. So I gave it a try. And oh my god! It was heavenly. Mild in flavor, but enough of a taste to make me realize it was genius. Yes, the wait was at least 20 minutes to get to the counter, but it was worth it. And there were lots more innovative and interesting flavor combinations (in addition to some standard favs) on their menu that I will definitely be back for.
