A pretty place for brunch. They have some sitting in the tiny garden outside also. The service is half-hearted, to say the least, but the food more than makes up for it. We had the Cote Nord, Ratatouille (with fried eggs) and La Note Pain Perdu. Each of them were better than the other. The house coffee is OK, not great, and though the refills are not charged, you have to request for them – they won’t come on their own. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday they open for dinner, too.
I’ve been coming to La Note at least once a year if not more for the last fifteen years. I fell in love with the ambiance, coziness, and fresh, consistent French fare on my very first visit. Since then I’ve brought every friend and family member I have back. La Note is almost apart of my family and I enjoy sharing it with my loved ones! It’s become a custom for me to have breakfast here every time I’m in Berkeley. Highly recommend taking out of town guests – it makes a wonderful impression. Can’t wait till the next time!
We got to La Note at 7.30am and by 7.50am, the line for breakfast spread far behind us. At promptly, 8am the doors were unlocked and we were let in. And instantly the place was alive with the bustle that you would expect from a place that is alive and kicking.La Note’s breakfast items are delectable. I can still not get the sight of the Cinnamon Brioche out of my head. Light, fluffy and ever so crisp on the edges. The house coffee is fantastic too. And their pancakes will draw the customary sighs of excitement. Stop here for breakfast and you will have both your heart and stomach smiling.
The Exit Sign. The only way out of this overpriced diner16 Sep, 2014Sunday Brunch. Went for brunch on Sunday based on a friends recommendation. What a disappointment . Friendly service was unable to overcome the basic eggs and bacon which were ridiculously overpriced. Eggs and bacon ? Come on , $12 ? Crowed with students that must certainly have trust funds. The local diners put this place to shame.
A La Bolognese. Delicious!
Good Breakfast, Good Coffee. Looking for a good place for breakfast and coffee we stopped here, looked at the menu and decided to give it a try. The coffee smell certainly drew us in as did the homey French decor. We were seated promptly and although our server didn’t get to us immediately, she did stop by to tell us she would be with us as soon as possible. We waited for just a few minutes (5-6) before she reappeared to take our orders. The coffee was indeed good, as was the food. Eggs were light and fluffy, French Toast not dense and heavy. The only thing was, as seems to occur occasionally at restaurants, that once it came time for the check, service slowed to a crawl….
