Consistently Wonderful. Given a choice of all the restaurants in the Bay Area, I choose Lalime’s every time. I have had many deeply disappointing meals at Chez Panisse, and still wonder why it is considered the Food Mecca when a restaurant as consistently wonderful is only minutes away. My personal favorite are their crisped sweetbreads, which are almost always on the ever changing menu, and never served in the same way. The chefs are inventive without tipping over into the bizarre. The waitstaff are exactly the right combination of being attentive without becoming irritating. Simply put, I have never had a meal at Lalime’s that I did not think was delicious, well-conceived, and perfectly executed. Two final notes: The noise level is quiet, so that you can have an intimate dinner with someone without having to shout. Second, although Lalime’s is rated pricy, I have never left without feeling that I would have paid more for the same divine meal.
