  AN EAST BAY BURGER CLASSIC. This has been a favorite spot for my parents since they were young and dating. the smokehouse is an old school burger stand that still keeps packing them in constantly.i started my day with my parents around noon at bakesale betty’s. the fried chicken sandwich is a must try and one of the best things around. i shared half with my parents and they loved it too. my dad doesn’t even like chicken and he said it was about the best chicken he has ever had. we then shared a strawberry shortcake as well for dessert and headed out to look around more. i next stop would be at genova and as tempting as it was i didn’t get anything as i was kinda satisfied and a little full. we left genova and headed into berkeley to hit up some shopping.wait a second! dad, turn around! how about we split a quick burger from the smokehouse? ok! hell yes i grew up on this place and it’s been years since i have been there. we found a spot right in front and immediately decided we would both get our own since they were on the small side. we got 2 cheeseburgers with everything(ketchup, mustard, relish and chopped onions). we ordered and waited about 5 minutes. i’ll warn you now when they give you your number, remember it! my dad somehow forgot the number and they were busy so that delayed our quest for this burger a tad. we sat at a bench outside and had our tasty burger. sure they are on the small side and the beef patty is super thin but it’s all so darn good. the bun is toasted so nicely on the grill so it has a good crunch and texture to it. the meat is of good quality and tasted fresh as well. the toppings on the burger are perfect and all fit very well together. for the price it’s a pretty decent burger and since we had been popping around elsewhere eating other things we were satisfied and very glad we went old fashioned and got a smokehouse burger.
