  Super Nachos. This is a plate of heaven. Sol y Luna asks you for your choice of meat, then throws it in a pile with homemade tortilla chips, fresh guacamole, sour cream, cheese, beans, and jalapeos. My favorite topping is the carnitas; the savory pork adds its salty juice to the mess of delicious ingredients already mixed together. Berkeley is a haven for great food of all cultures, and Mexican is, surprisingly, no exception. Sol y Luna, downtown’s only sit down Mexican restaurant, carries the banner well for the cuisine. Homemade tortillas, a variety of succulent meats, and spicy salsas help make this place’s delicious tacos, enchiladas, and burritos what they are. Arguably the best choice here, though, is a teenage favorite, the super nachos. A pile of chips covered in melted cheese, jalapeos, sour cream, and homemade guacamole with your choice of meat? I’ll take two piles, please. Sol y Luna impresses not only with food, but with appearance. Tucked in a back alley off Shattuck, the place has a certain charm and patio feel that makes a trip here as much of a getaway as a meal. Service is a little slow, but I suppose that goes with the laid back feel. Prices are low for the surrounding area, as a big plate of food costs less than $9.
