Looking out for delicious South Indian food like Idli, Dosa, Roti and vegetable in and around Berkeley then you must stop by.They have special dosas like the house curry Dosa, spicy veggie Dosa, spinach and cottage cheese Dosa which are a must try. Every dosa and Idli here is served with two types of sauces, white and orange and Sambhar which perfectly matches the taste with you dosa or idli. They also have other dishes like Chole, vegetable korma, South Indian Thalis which you always can give a try.I live very close by to this place and it’s my frequent place since I am very fond of Indian food too.Delicious, yummy and crispy dosas are strongly recommended at the Udipi Palace.Amrita Hemdev about.me

One step into the place and the setting & ambiance reminded me of the typical Udupi restaurants back in India. Now all we had to see was, if the food was as good or not. We seated ourselves and our server was prompt enough to help us with the menu.I ordered for the UDUPI COMBO which had an ONION UTHAPPAM, MEDU VADA & IDLY along with some chutney and sambhar. The Uthapam turned out to be quite delicious and I finished it within minutes of its arrival. The Medu Vada and Idly were on the other hand were a little disappointing. The Medu Vada was chewy and lacked flavor, while the Idly was not as soft as it was supposed to be. The Sambhar & chutney were just about average.I also tried the MYSORE MASALA DOSA that my husband ordered for and the Dosa was nice and thin. I would’ve preferred it to be slightly crisper but it was well-made nevertheless. The Masala (stuffing) and the Mysore chutney on the dosa were just perfect.I really wanted to have the FILTER COFFEE but to our dismay, the coffee had been discontinued. What’s an Udupi restaurant without their signature Filter Coffee!Anyway since there was no coffee, we ordered for GULAB JAMUN to end our meal with. The GULAB JAMUNS were piping hot and delicious to say the least. This dish was definitely the winner amongst all the different items we tried. So barring the Gulab Jamuns, I found the food to be just about average with a few hits and misses. I might just go back in case I have those South-Indian food cravings to be satiated.

We had a half-eaten chewing gum with wrapper in our food – I do not think it gets worse than that. The management was very very unresponsive and totally unapologetic when we pointed out the chewing gum. Never visiting the place ever.

Pretty crowded.Hard to find place for parking -otherwise, we are good!!:)Thanks again

Average food, not worth the hype. This place came highly recommended to me, and I was very disappointed after trying the food here. Maybe it was just a bad day for the restaurant or something? It’s probably worth another try just to make sure, but the food was average at best.I had samosas as an appetizer, which were decent. My wife and I had masala dosas, which were also decent. It was the entree that soured the experience. My aloo matar curry tasted bad — not decent, acceptable, or blah, but bad. It had no flavor to it, and tasted nothing like similar dishes I’ve had at other restaurants. My wife’s khadi bhindi curry also didn’t taste good, and she typically LOVES Indian food. Like I said previously, it may be worth giving this place another try based on reputation, but based on my experience, I would not come back here.

A-MAZ-ING. The cilantro-mint (Green) chutney is the best we’ve ever had. My husband is a meat-eater and he raves on about the vegetarian food here – we live on the East coast of America and we can’t wait to visit Berkeley again just so we can die and go to heaven one more time – over the top? Try it – you’ll see what we mean…this is GOOD Indian food
