We didn’t much care for the food, or for the service. It was an effort to get the wait staff’s attention for anything. We had a white meat chicken pho, a basic beef pho, crispy noodles with vegetables, and a shrimp pork roll. The pho was okay, the noodles were disappointing (nothing crispy about the crispy noodles). The rolls were so bland they didn’t seem to have any flavour at all. Couldn’t even taste the shrimp, although it was visible. It might just be that I don’t have the taste for Vietnamese food, but I won’t be coming back.
Always nice to have on a cold and rainy day, #1 is my go too. Process.starts with lining up which moves fairly fast and once inside signal the number of people in your party to the waiter standing by the atm. Sometimes a little chaotic but it’s cheap, fast and delicious. Just don’t expect Michelin star service here.
Interesting Experience, Great Food. You know those restaurants that have a system from seating to ordering to paying but provide no instruction? The sort where everyone seems to know the drill except you — This is that kind of place. Thankfully it is also a place that serves excellent Vietnamese food, which was also evident from the throngs of Vietnamese speaking patrons who filled the large restaurant even at 2 PM, the time I selected specifically to avoid the lunch surge. Just a few words of advice: 1. They will seat you eventually — No need to wander around looking lost. 2. Despite the enormous menu, they will try to take your order as soon as your posterior makes contact with the seat of your chair. Just smile, order a beverage, and ask for more time to select what you want to eat. They will likely return 20 seconds later when you’ve still only perused about a quarter of the menu. Ask for another extension — They’ll understand… Sort of. 3. Remember your table number, and pay at the register when finished. No need to leave tip on table as there is a jar up front. Even though you’ve confidently memorized your number, they will insist you point to your table on a map of the restaurant taped to the counter. Try your best. If you can’t manage to find the map’s orientation and due north, they will reluctantly accept the table number your provided and process your bill.I say this jovially as I personally love these kinds of places. It makes for an interesting experience in addition to a great meal. I ordered the standard Pho with the works. It was fresh, delicious, and very reasonably priced. The spring rolls were also among the better that I’ve eaten. The peanut sauce, which normally contains a sprinkling of crushed roasted peanuts on top, was thick with crushed peanuts stirred in. Simple, fresh, wholesome, no frills food. That is what makes Vietnamese cuisine so fantastic in my opinion. Try some good Vietnamese fare at Kim Long.
Fast service. Good crowd. Great food!
