Location in Beverly Hills was great. Valet parking and close to Rodeo Drive. It was O-KAY. The salad wasn’t impressive. Not a lot of flavours. Lots of beans and peas and I’m sure it was healthy but it just lacked flavours. The clam linguini was a large serving which I couldn’t finish but the sauce was just too runny for my liking. I typically like a thicker, richer sauce for the linguini. So it tasted like I was just eating naked noodles with clams on the side. I’m sure the valet parking cost as much as one dish. But oh well. It was an interesting restaurant – I felt like I was in some American ranch.

I almost feel a bit miffed that the service I received wasn’t the same legendary rudeness to which others have referred. Anyway, the chopped salad was so amazing I still think about it. Expensive?? Not compared to Sydney or Melbourne, and they’re my yardsticks
Great chopped salad, horrible people and polices!. I am absolutely appalled by the arrogance and pretentiousness of this restaurant and their poor management and policies after being a loyal customer 3x a week for years! Food is great but overpriced and how I was treated today will never leave my memory and I will never ever come back. La Scala you better fix your attitude to paying customers. No one has the right to be treated how I was today. I am boycotting you! Maybe one day you will apologize for treating me like dirt. Detailed yelp review: Wow where do I begin? Zero stars should really be an option. Now to start I’m not critiquing their food- I was a loyal customer of their overpriced chopped salad- I loved the taste and would get suckered to pay $37 for a salad.. My review comes with the WORST customer service I have EVER witnessed! Pretentious, rude, absolutely disgusting owners, management, and policies. A colleague/friend and I were planning to have lunch and I always recommend la Scala for a chopped salad… He got their 10 minutes before me cuz I was late from work and it was raining (yes rain in la). He ordered a caprese salad and a soup so he wouldn’t be taking up a table at peak hour. Eating waiting for me. I arrive 10 minutes later and no waiter came up to me. No one asked me for water or what I would like to eat. I signaled and they said sorry he sat down and we don’t serve incomplete parties. I said well he has gone through a soup and salad and is a paying customer and I am joining as I was delayed and what if he ran into a friend who wanted to join spontaneously?!The waiter and manager said they would not serve me. Yes, you heard that correct. A restaurant that won’t serve someone! Tables around me of regulars were also disgusted at the treatment they joined in and said give her the salad come on. Manager called the owner and even the owner said no don’t take her order since she wasn’t on time. Wow, I’m being punished for being stuck in rainy traffic and not dying in a car accident to try and be on time. Then I said well what if he wants to order a main dish because still hungry and they said no! They proceeded to speak low to us and said don’t lie about your size of party being two instead of one- excuse me?! Lie. And it’s a problem to give you more business and money why?! This is a long review because I am beyond devastated after coming here 3x a week for lunch since I work and live blocks away. I will NEVER I repeat never give this snobby establishment a dollar again. The whole town should know how they treat people like trash. Wake up- your job is to serve food- don’t act high and mighty. Get over yourself- You will never be as good as il Pastaio anyway. On top of it all I left my garage parking ticket there and didn’t even want to walk in and see their face so I ended up paying a lost ticket cost of 22$. Rather pay that than see people who basically spit in my face with their arrogance. Trust me, if you saw this you would never eat there again… Goodbye!
Terrible Service!!!!. Who needs to go to a mediocre restaurant with terrible service and an extremely bad attitude. I’m surprised this place stays in business. So many other restaurants which are friendly and happy to accomodate the needs of handicapped and the elderly. Seniors beware!!! Food very mediocre, service the worst I’ve experienced.
Won’t take back BITTER SOUP….based on POLICY. ASTOUNDED at their policy of not allowing (under any condition) the return of a dish!!I’ve been a very regular customer of La Scala for over 30 years (back when located on Little Santa Monica). I’m there every few weeks for a Leon’s chopped salad. Today, my wife ordered soup (which she’s ordered hundred’s of times over the years). However, there was a distinctly bitter and watery taste. Our niece tried it as well, and agreed. My wife politely asked if she could have the tomato soup instead (which I had and she tasted and liked). The waiter (pleasant and embarrassed) told us that the policy prevented sending it back…..period. He clearly felt uncomfortable enforcing this ridiculous rule. I don’t believe we’ve sent an item back more than a few times in the last 10 years, but I was shocked that they simply wouldn’t graciously take it back and get my wife another bowl of soup. This obviously isn’t about money as we’re talking about a bowl of soup….not a 5 pound lobster! So….I went to the manager…..who I’ve seen standing at the door for years. I explained that I’ve been a customer for 30 years and believed there must be a misunderstanding….thinking that a regular customer might be allowed to return a dish…..say….once every 30 years! Nope….he just stood there and indicated that he simply enforces the policy. I was startled….How foolish can such a policy be..particularly given the frequency of my patronage!Bottom Line: No question that I will no longer go to La Scala as often as I have over the last several decades. I will certainly continue to tell this story. I even told the manager that I planned to review this event on yelp and send an email to the LA Times food section……He looked at me with blank affect……He couldn’t care…..Even more reason to write this review. There are lots of great salads in Beverly Hills…sometimes you need a Leon’s chopped salad……but think twice as the dismissive attitude might not be worth the taste!
