Farm to table in beautiful settingTavern is owned by the same group that owns AOC. There are many similarities in the respect for ingredients, unfussy but sophisticated dishes, beautiful setting, and genuinely friendly service. The vibe is more modern than AOC, but equally polished. Any vegetable at Tavern tastes like the essence of what it should be and the food is familiar yet refined. Stay in the patio room and you will be delighted on every visit!
Beautiful, sophisticated space. Practically empty when we arrived, but it filled up fast with (mostly) well-dressed folks ready for a power lunch. Reservations definitely needed. Servers who looked like aspiring actors, friendly and efficient, but their minds seemed elsewhere. The bread was outstanding in this megalopolis that seems amazingly deficient in this category. The bacon-wrapped Parmesan-stuffed dates were nuggets of flavor. The salmon was cooked precisely medium rare with a pink, lightly translucent center. The chopped salad had enough crispy bacon and other proteins that you could feel virtuous and still get your full quota of meat. My Nioise sandwich was just a tuna sandwich. Except it wasn’t. Spanish tuna is a different kettle of fish from Starkist, and the mollet egg with almost-runny-but-not yolk made the dish (tricky-to-make mollet eggs seem to be a specialty of the place) The sandwich was filled with ingredients that you find in a classic Nioise salad – and all on a tasty ciabatta roll. Not cheap – but very good.
