  Its no secret that hotels often feature their own restaurants and this is particularly true with the higher- end hotels and boutique hotels, most of which strive to make the customer experience as memorable as possible. The West Inn & Suites in Carlsbad, California takes its lodging very seriously and, as I have learned, holds its restaurant and food in equally high regard, as evidenced by Bistro West.I dined at Bistro West while on a Carlsbad beercation and I stayed at the West Inn & Suites, so it made sense that we would eventually check out one of the on- site restaurants. Bistro West was selected one evening for dinner and its safe to say that every person in my dining party left feeling satisfied, even if a little fuller than expected. Bistro West serves a wide assortment of foods, ranging from appetizers to burgers to pizza to entrees like steak, pork loin, and filet mignon. This restaurant emphasizes farm to table quality and it lives up to its standards by obtaining fresh produce and other food ingredients from its own farm. The staff crafts the foods based on what is in season and with such a short distance between the restaurant and farm, the food is about as fresh as food can be. Youll know the moment you take a bite that the food served at Bistro West is fresh and natural, prepared with the utmost care and attention to quality. I dined with a group of people and I loved what Bistro West served. My Carolina BBQ sandwich, pumpkin ravioli, and dessert were nothing short of excellent and I like that each course of food was paired with a compatible beer. The staff really went the extra mile, making sure to match the beer and food in just the right way and making sure each food dish was prepared according to the restaurants high standards. I found the food very good in every way and the personal care was obvious from the presentation all the way through to the taste. Bistro West serves lunch, brunch, dinner, etc with a separate kids menu, happy hour menu, drink menu, and even a gluten free menu. The wine list includes about 100 options and the craft beer flows freely. It is common to discover beer or wine dinners and other events at Bistro West and it makes an excellent choice for family dining needs.   Our favorite restaurant in San Diego county. They always have outstanding food and excellent service. We highly recommend Bistro West.

  Some Bright Spots, Mostly Overhead. The interior of this casually upscale place just misses being elegant by the width of a flat-panel TV screen. Otherwise it’s put together with a delicate hand and a discerning eye, even if the fascinating colour-changing bubbles in the wall remind me of nothing so much as one of those old-fashioned colour-wheels people used to aim at their aluminum Christmas trees.The staff did admirably well with a group of 25, of which I was one. The delay in bringing the food out was so slight that it would pass unnoticed by anyone less curmudgeonly than me. Remarkably, everything was gotten right, as far as I could tell, most unusual for so large a group. I was less thrilled with the Greek salad with salmon, which was my order; the salmon was a little dry and at one point tasted slightly burnt; the salad itself was large and heaped with things cut so fine as to be unidentifiable, before being mixed in among the machine-cut lettuce and grilled artichoke hearts.
