Group night at Gregorio’s. What is going on with the lack of good customer service nowadays? I am sick and tired of sitting at a bar top while waiting for our night to begin and being ignored for 10 minutes or more. Oh, the staff sees me alright, but they ignore the fact that I need to be served. It’s like I’m the chicken pox of customers. I thought the bartender at Tomiko was particularly rude. That was until I sat down at the bar at Gregorio’s. First of all, there was no bartender. I can understand not having one on staff considering the size of the bar, but when the servers looked at us with such disdain for sitting there, a bartender should be hired. It made us feel uncomfortable and very unwelcome. A customer should never have to practically beg for a drink, or anything for that matter.Once we left the bar, we were finally able to enjoy the atmosphere that we were there for. Most customers were casually dressed, but if you felt like dressing up, you wouldn’t be uncomfortable. Our table was on the patio overlooking Carlsbad Village Drive. It was a great spot to people watch. The train was only yards away, but it only added to the fun.The Eggplant Parmesan was a recommendation, which I shared. I’m not an Eggplant fan, but this dish was delicious. And there was plenty for 2 of us to share. After trying the dishes we ordered, plus the take home Sausage and peppers dinner for my hubby, I realized that the only thing different in all of them was the meat and veggie. The tomato sauce was the same for everything we ordered and very overpowering. It’s a good thing it was divine. Next time I visit Gregorio’s, I will make sure to order at least one item on the menu with a different sauce.

Gregorio’s does tend to be slow to start off with, which would not make me give it a kid friendly rating. Gregorio’s also gets two thumbs up for offering gluten free options and milk free sauce for people with food allergies. The food after the slow start is getting rave reviews! I had the Hand made Cheese Ravioli with meat sauce. My husband had the Sausage Cacciatore, and the kids had the kids Gluten free pasta and Fettuccine Alfredo. Many Italian restaurants do not offer children’s portions of Fettuccine Alfredo, Cheese Ravioli or Four Cheese Lasagna which was also a pleasant surprise. To make the dinner even better the restaurant is giving 100% of their profits to our local Boys and Girls club. Maybe next year we can talk them into to doing that for the Primer Family’s favorite Autism Charities!

Very disappointed. :-(. We really, really wanted to like this restaurant. As Carlsbad residents we were so impressed when we heard they were donating all their 2010 profits to the Boys Girls Club, and were anxious to give it a try.We were very disappointed. The bruscetta was horrible- bread was cold the first time out- then dripping with oil on the second try.Every entree was so drenched in sauce that it was extremely difficult to stomach. My son’s fried shrimp was way overcooked and he was unable to eat it. The waitress was completely unconcerned and we paid $20 for the pile of sticky pasta that was also on the plate.Maybe we caught them on a bad night- but the place was virtually empty and we ordered all top end entrees…. This was our first and last visit to Gregorios. Sorry Boys & Girls Club.

The service was fast and friendly. I don’t about the other review but I thoroughly enjoyed this place. The decor was pleasant. The food was excellent. I’m not a wine snob like the other reviewer so I can’t comment on that. Overall a great place to dine at. Would come here again if I didn’t live in LA.
