Tip Top Meats & European Delicatessen is awfully disappointing. I have had the good fortune to have eaten superior German fare. One place, not too far away from this location, called Irena’s and located in Oceanside, serves very tasty German food. The place is a bar, and one would not expect such quality German food be available in this setting, but I was searching a couple of years ago for good German food, and Yelp delivered in aces. Delicious Schnitzel (perfectly breaded and battered) melted in your mouth good, Stuffed Cabbage w Mashed Potatoes that every single time was consumed avidly by the loveliest senior never failed to eat to its completion, great Sausage, fresh and savory, with ideal bread, excellent sides, and diligent service by the prideful owner of German descent, while family cooked this above average dishes in the tiny back kitchen.Enter Tip Top Meats & European Delicatessen, a good lady sang praises to the place, and once again curiosity led us to this mediocre act. Several items were purchased at top dollar:Schnitzel $10.95, hard as a rock, no finesse displayed in the preparation of this bulky concoction, with warm red cabbage, vinegar loaded, and a prepackaged salad, served with a prepackaged dressing, fresh a thing of the past. 1 Star. Ruben sandwich $8.95, with so much badly made Sauerkraut inside that had to be removed, bread and fries rather tasty. 2 Stars.Salami sandwich $8.95, meat very distasteful (where is a good Italian Salami when you need one?), Potato salad a little warm but edible. 2 Stars.Purchased Bratwurst (4) to go $8.95, white in color, average tasting, 3 Stars. Apple Strudel, around $10, made with canned filling and disappointing dough, heavily sprinkled with powdered sugar, 1.5 Stars. Smoked cooked Pork Chops, $9? Plain as day, 2.5 Stars. 6 Almond Fingers $3.99, sweetly uneventful, 2 Stars.Big place, plenty of help, brisk business, little parking to be found. You have to order first and then take the food to the table chosen. There was a German Restaurant in San Juan Capistrano, CA, ran by a German Chef and his whole family, everything was delicious, but they closed their doors. German food is excellent when prepared correctly. That does not mean that every place with a German title is equally good. Traurig aber wahr (sad but true). 2 Stars.

Fantastic food with unbeatable pricing! My husband ordered a Rubens sandwich and when we got our food it was about 1 1/2 sandwiches. Very surprised but it was amazing. Will be coming back in the near future, very interested in trying their breakfast items.

Epic restaurant and epic food! Don’t be fooled by the deli front, the restaurant out the back serves quality portions of quality foods at a great price. I had the fillet wrapped in bacon with a baked potato and greens as the side. The steak was done beautifully and the rest of my families meals were brilliant as well. Highly recommend if you’re in the Carlsbad area.

Usually good. We order an expensive bottle of wine, the only opener on hand was broken, had to go to 711 to buy one. The stuffed pork chop couldn’t be cut with a sharp knife. I brought a new person and was very upset, as I usually get great food.

Time Warp. You enter the restaurant through the store, order at the counter and food is served when ready. Amazing quality and prices. By far the best German/European food I have had without flying to Europe. Update 8/16, tried the burger it was big and was cooked as ordered but nothing special. The other food I have had here is better. The club sandwich I ordered once was huge and good, actually three halfs of a sandwich. The lamb chops were tasty although fatty. The pork osso bucco was very flavorful and a massive amount of meat. The large filet mignon was very large and had good taste, but was slightly dry.The sides of German potato salad and red cabbage were excellent. The side salad is ok.
