Day old cookies. I used to shop here regularly when I lived in the neighborhood. I stopped by this morning to buy two black and white cookies because I was in the area. Being that there were only six in the display case, I asked the manager if they were made today. He insisted that they were and stated that there were plenty more in the back. Well, I had to toss them because they were stale. I loved bakeries, so I know fresh from stale. To charge full price for day-old items is shameful. But, to blatantly lie about it borders on criminal behavior. I will never buy from this bakery again.

Favourite Bakery in LA. Beverlywood Bakery is my favourite bakery in LA. Sometimes, I wake up in the morning and the first thing I do is to drive over to the bakery for a bear-claw (the best, but they usually sell out early). My other favourite pastry is the cinnamon croissant (the dough is not croissant dough, but delicious). Also, the chocolate danish (they have 3 kinds), rugaleh and cream puffs are delicious. The portions are huge. While I can eat a whole pastry myself, two people can easily share one.Beverlywood Bakery’s pastries and cookies are comfort food for my family. When there is stress in the family and I am driving to them in the South Bay, I often bring a bunch of Beverlywood bakery cookies and pastries, so we have some sweetness! Now my criticism, they could have better coffee (but one does not go there for the coffee). Also, my trainer should not read this review!I highly recommend this place!

Rugalach – Mmmmmmmm!. My wife and I are both over the age of 50. We’ve had more than our share of rugalach from all over the country. Delis, bakeries, weddings, bar mitzvahs… We’ve done our time in NYC and enjoyed excellent versions of these little pastries. Up until yesterday afternoon, we both agreed on our favoirite version… the ruggies at Junior’s Deli in Brooklyn have been standing at the top of the heap for years. Ever since Pakulah’s (Spring Valley, NY) closed their doors years ago. Until yesterday…We recently moved to Los Angeles. Driving around yesterday we drove past the storefront of Beverlywood Bakery. With nowhere we had to be, we went around the block and popped in. We saw a beautiful assortment of challahs and other traditional baked goods. As we were checking out, on a whim, we ordered a half pound of assorted rugalach. A couple blocks away, my wife hands me one. (Insert sound or angels singing here…) OMG! We quickly agreed that we had just found our new best ruggies ever. Unquestionably. The buttery taste hits you instantly. They are not trying to be baby danish. Not too sugary. Perfect flavor. The other items we ordered were good. Even great. But the Beverlywood Ruggies are now sitting atop the list of the country’s best… Can’t wait until next weekend to go back. Mmmmmm.
