We had a fabulous dinner with our son and his friend at this delicious restaurant. The menu was very interesting and we ended up ordering 10 small plates for the 4 of us. Great cocktails and wine and even a fabulous dessert. The staff was so helpful and the service was so good. We loved it.
I came here for the Shrimp Toast because I heard it was one of the top food items to try in L.A. Son of a Gun is small American seafood restaurant in the Beverly Grove area that is ran by Chefs Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo. The restaurant holds around 50 people and has cool fishing and sailing gear for its decor. I stopped by for a late afternoon snack and got the Shrimp Toast and a beer. The bread for the shrimp toasted was prepared perfectly. The hoisin and sriracha mayo blended nicely together for some amazing flavor that made every bite count. Other than the portion size (a bit small), this is a really tasty sandwich. Next time I hope to try the lobster roll & fried chicken sandwich. I had a pleasant dining experience here. foodartandculture.com
This place by far has the best fried chicken sandwich I’ve ever had in my life! The combination of the sandwich was amazing, the chicken tasted like real chicken unlike what you usually find in restaurants nowadays. If you’re in the area you have to pass by here ! Highly recommended !
What can be written about Chefs Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo’s Son of a Gun??Well… i spent a few hours in the kitchen with Chef David Skyes and his crew chatting and taking pictures. These guys are truly Salt of the Earth…Each chef from each of their restaurants wake up early and go to the Santa Monica Farmers Market on Wednesday and Saturday, load up their trucks full of fresh produce and jam on back to their respective restaurant to get ready for the day.Not only have Jon & Vinny changed the LA food scene they will continue to do so for years to come.. facebook.com
Price without Performance. We really wanted to like this place but the food just let us down. Tuna tataki sashimi was literally 2 small pieces of mediocre quality tuna for $9. Peel and eat shrimp was OK. We couldn’t even taste the brussels sprouts because they were were doused with sauce and salt. Worst was the two $14 glasses of low quality wine. We love good places and don’t mind paying (it is the west side, after all), but this place doesn’t earn it.
Wow!!! What a delicious meal. I only wish the portions were bigger because I never wanted it to end. My friends and I shared the shrimp toast, chicken sandwich, citrus salad, ham and hush puppies, fish dip, and grilled octopus salad. Everything was to die for. Especially the chicken sandwich!! Great service
