Its not Authentic at all. We went in to this place while on a trip through Oroville this weekend. My husband and I truly enjoy a lot of Chinese food we are originally from the SF Bay Area awhere the Chinese food available is usually of the best quality. I can honestly say this place is the worst I have had in a long time. The service was pretty good. Friendly, nice and the portions are large but the quality of the food was really lacking, with the exception of the hot and sour soup and also fried prawns which I was rather impressed with because they did not have the slight aquarium flavor that prawns often do in many Chinese restaurants. We ordered Mongolian Beef and Kung Pao chicken. First of all when the chicken comes I notice the lack of vegetables, the reason I order Kung Pao is for the veggies. Ok, I figure maybe a little different style but when I taste the Kung pao it is not right. There is barely any spice to it and the sauce they are using is like some kind of Lee Kum Kee black bean sauce you can buy from the grocery store or something . The rice is dry and weird. It looks like it might be good but it was strangely bland and tastes old . So, I taste my husbands Mongolian Beef, at first it looks maybe ok but it is also lacks a good portion of the usual onions etc. It was the strangest Mongolian Beef i have ever tasted. It is sweet and tastes like someone has poured hoisin sauce in with the beef to pass it of as my husbands favorite dish. This is not right at all. The sauce is lupy and greasy and coagulated. We each had only one serving of our dishes and finished them because it’s not inedible and we do not want to be insulting but it is simply not right. I really wanted this place to be good. Maybe they have other dishes that are better. The dishes we had with exception of the soup and prawns was not very good and we

Great food, big portions.. While the oroville version is better, the chico one is still good. Some items do tend to be better than others it is highly suggested to try out the seafood/shrimp chowmein. The beef dishes are all excellent, the shrimp appetizer is excellent. However if their is a flaw in the place it is that you get what you pay for, the dishes that are 10-12 a plate are much better than the 7-9 versions. They easily have the best chowmein in Chico.

Love it!. We have eaten at Tong Fong Low in Oroville numerous times and in Chico only once, it’s our favorite place to go. Love everything we have ever ordered. The food is delicious. Can’t wait to go again.

PORTIONS TOO BIG, LONG WAIT. My two kids and I tried Tong Fong Low for the first time last night. I ordered the cashew shrimp plate, my 13-yr-old ordered the lemon chicken plate, and my 9-yr-old ordered the sweet-n-sour pork plate. Well, each ‘plate’ was a platter with a ridiculously huge mound of food that would easily serve 4-6 people. I think it is kind of a sneaky way for them to make more money. So unfortunately I spent around $33 for the 3 of us when we could have all split one plate for $8-$9 and still had food left over. It was also a huge waste of food. Also, it took a very long time for the food to come, which usually isn’t the case at Chinese restaurants. Unless we all agree on one plate to share next time, which is doubtful since we all like different things, we won’t be eating there again.

Excited that it’s in Chico…. Ate there the other night and enjoyed everything we got: Walnut Prawns, Broccoli with Garlic (simple, delicious)… definitely going to keep trying other dishes- just wish they were Downtown or more centrally located, since we’re on the north side of Downtown.

Great Chinese. This resturant has been opened in Oroville sine 1912, now in Chico. Most entree’s around $8 and lunch specials around $6.50. Their Egg Foo Young is excellent.
