Super consistent and has been for 30 years! Why can’t more eating establishments figure this out? When I’m in town, my high school chums make it a reunion at the Danson!

It’s a joke. Get out of there and go to el ranchero. That’s good Mexican
It is terrible. Not even close to Mexican food. Bad service and dirty.
Danson or Espiau’s… oh wait… it’s both. My husband remembered there was this restaurant in the downtown Claremont area that served Espiau’s food. He used to eat at Espiau’s when there was a restaurant in Pomona and raved about these homemade tortilla chips and salsa.Well, we recently heard that The Danson (an eatery in a very quaint area of Downtown Claremont) was the sister restaurant to Espiau’s and that on their menu you could still order some of these old favorites.By the time we arrived it was almost closing time. We didn’t see anyone at the front of the restaurant to greet us and began walking inside. One of the waitresses saw us. We asked if we just sat ourselves and she said yes. But then we caught site of a bar with a very cool looking carved wood bar. So we decided to head on down.Good thing we did, because there were a number of people there. We also discovered a decent selection of beers on tap (Newcastle was one of them) along with a patio seating area. We got seated right away (the bartender saw us and greeted us leading us to a table). He asked us if we’d like anything to drink and offered us our beer in two sizes: short (a pint jelly jar) or a tall (a full Bell quart jar). The chip guy brought us those famous tortilla chips with a spicy seasoned salt and homemade salsa. Oh, to die for!! They were awesome. I could have eaten an entire basket of those. My fella said the taste brought back good memories for him. You know how that is, when you can remember things from your childhood based on the smell of cookies or something your mom or grandma used to bake? Well, that’s what it was like for him with the chips. The menu was average price for any bar/restaurant. My fella ordered the beef dip with curly fries and I got the single Espiau’s salad. The beef dip was on a buttery toasted french roll with just enough melted cheese along with the au jus sauce for dipping. The curly fries were lightly salted. The sandwich also came with a pickle spear and a huge wedge of watermelon. The Espiau’s salad was in a soup bowl piled high with lettuce, red wine vinaigrette, and shredded Mexican cheese. They put a lot of cheese on it and I actually took some off because it was a bit much. But seeing how that was pretty the salad, I decided the protein would be okay. The dressing was nice and tart. The service was good in the bar. Our server was attentive and checked back on us a few times. I also liked the atmosphere of the restaurant and the number of large screen TVs in the bar and dining room. Definitely a good place to watch any sporting event (basketball, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, etc.).
