First and foremost, this has definitely been one of the best Banh Mi sandwiches I’ve tasted in a long time! Tucked away in an urban strip mall called The Camp (You won’t see the restaurant from the street, you gotta go into the parkade and walk!), you will find a nice little patio with an open air seating area. With a modern twist, the Vietnamese sandwiches are made fresh! We ordered the (1)daily special, which was a braised beef banh mi with a pineapple dressing, the (2) belly banh mi, which was a braised pork belly & shoulder with mustard greens, and the (3) lemongrass pork, sourced from local farms. All sandwiches were dressed with traditional pickled vegetables, mayonnaise and cilantro. The belly banh mi, which was one of their signature sandwiches, was by far my favourite. It had the right mix of fatty to lean meat, and wasn’t overdressed with sauce. The mustard greens on the side also gave it a tangy twist and acted as a palete cleanser. Slightly pricier compared to traditional Vietnamese restaurants, but would definitely come back again if I had the chance to try their drinks menu and noodle bowls!
Good Things Going On Here. Wow! Made it out here for a lunch during the week of a conference. This place has everything you need for that Vietnamese fix – except the Pho. Had my heart set on a big bowl of hot noodles but was not disappointed with the Shrimp Bun/Vermicelli noodles. Beautiful chilled plump shrimp (prawns) on a generous portion of noodles topped with bean sprouts, cucumbers, lettuce, mint, red perilla, peanuts and crispy shallots. Delicious crispy egg roll on the side and large portion of citrus vinaigrette. ($9) Should have had lunch here every day so I could get through the abbreviated menu. Extra large Vietnamese iced coffee ($3) Order at the counter, server brings your order within a reasonable time. Lovely indoor/outdoor decor. Clean and tastefully presented food at a sensible price.
