The food was decent and they have a good kids’ menu. I can’t say much for the waitstaff, as they were unattentive and seemed to be focused on getting us out the door as soon as possible. I couldn’t understand how they could justify charging almost $4 for sour cream or guacamole on the side of an entre for which you already paid $14. Overall, it felt like a tourist trap. We were indeed tourists, so I guess it works.
Very tasty carnitas!! quality beans and rice. good house margaritas too.
Meet The New Burritos – Same As The Old Burritos. I like the place less now than I used to when it was just the one main room. Certainly the Melrose-ish annex with its jaw-dropping selection of world-class tequilas has some properties of attraction, but I choose to eat and drink on the ‘old’ side as I always have, and be thankful their menu has not changed – much.
Old skool done right. El Matador with it’s tacky, garish decor ( I speak of the old room, the new addition having been put on for the Newport Beach crowd I guess), offers a menu that looks like every chain Mexican place – the numbered combos, the standard entrees. But the difference is they know what this stuff is supposed to taste like. They’re are very few surprises except that the flavors which catch you by surprise if you’re expecting bland generic Mexican.
