In my honest opinion it is not everyday that you can find high calber sushi in a mall. Yes costa mesa is not your ordinary mall but hamamori is a 5 star sushi restaurant in a mall. Food is always fresh andI love it for a casual lunch. Service is great too.
Save Your Money. In town for conference at the Hilton Costa Mesa. A group of eight of us decided to head out for a Japanese dinner and found the good reviews on this site. Being from Vancouver, B.C. I am familiar with many grades of sushi and service. Arrived on time, the place was nearly empty. A bit cold. Servers were far from friendly. The menu is limited and does not offer any indications of side dishes, accompaniments or what is included in the price. As stated earlier, server (Hiroko) was aloof and not very helpful. It was not busy at all. There were a couple of authentic looking sushi chefs behind the fish bar so decided to go with Chirashi ($24) Most disappointing and overpriced dish. Amounted to about eight to ten pieces of lukewarm raw fish on a bed of cold solid rice that was at least 25% pickled ginger. Sticky and just unpalatable. Not a fan of the pickled ginger, I gave up trying to pick out all of the ginger and ordered a bowl of plain rice ($3) Did not even finish half of the Chirashi, Hiroko reacted as though this was typical. Nail in the coffin was the charge ($1) for green tea. Really? Nearly forty dollars for that after they added the auto gratuity for the party of eight. Save your money – if you are in the mood for excellent well priced Asian food in this area check out East Borough about a mile away.
It’s a really good restaurant for it to be in a mall. I love it
Buttery soft sushi. No wonder I found this restaurant on an OC top 10 sushi restaurants list! My friend and I stopped here after a long morning of shopping at South Coast Plaza because we are both sushi aficionados. She got the sushi lunch special and I got the sashimi lunch special. Both of us were delighted by the refreshing salad and light miso soup that started our meals but these were quickly forgotten once we delved into our main courses! The fish was so soft and buttery that we were in sushi heaven! Hopefully we’ll have time to drive to Costa Mesa again soon to dine here again. I definitely recommend this place!!!
